Ahmed Shehzad’s comeback delayed after PCB adds 6 weeks to his doping ban

The Pakistan opener got himself into trouble when he played nine friendly matches for his Lahore club, Muslim Gymkhana, during the period of his ban.

Pakistan batsman Ahmed Shehzad has been suspended for an additional six weeks for playing club cricket while serving a doping ban.

The opener was banned for four months after being found guilty of violating the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) anti-doping laws.

Shehzad's suspension was back-dated to July 10, so his period of ineligibility was due to end next week.

The 26-year-old, who has made 151 international appearances across all formats, has now been hit with another sanction after it came to light that he has played for Muslim Gymkhana Cricket Club while suspended.

Shehzad explained at a PCB hearing that he was not aware that he was forbidden from playing for his local club.

The clean-striking right-hander unreservedly apologised for an error of judgement, saying he turned out for his local club as he wanted to go back to his roots and give something back to the community.

Shehzad's explanation was deemed to be unsatisfactory and he will serve a six-week ban from November 11.
