Australia has added Marcus Stoinis to its squad for the second Test against Sri Lanka, despite a resounding win in the series opener in Brisbane.
Pat Cummins played a starring role as Tim Paine's side completed an innings-and-40-run victory inside three days at the Gabba.
Yet Australia's selectors feel they may need an all-rounder in Canberra and have turned to Stoinis as opposed to Mitchell Marsh, who featured in the recent Test series against India.
"We made the decision to add Marcus to give us the flexibility to play an all-rounder in the event the conditions require an extra bowling option in the line- up," explained national selector Trevor Hohns.
"Marcus has been a consistent performer this season, he has displayed strong all-round form in first-class cricket and continued that form into the Australian ODI series against India."
Australia has also released back-up batsman Matt Renshaw from its squad, meaning he can focus on the Big Bash League with Brisbane Heat.
