Former India captain Sourav Ganguly will officially take charge as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on October 23, and interim chief C.K. Khanna feels the ‘free rein’, sans the Committee of Administrators (CoA), will help Ganguly and Co. take effective decisions.
“It will be challenging but Sourav has the experience to carry it out. I want to congratulate him as he starts his new innings. He will have a free rein. We always had to seek approval from the CoA. Being a former cricketer, he has great understanding of the game. And he has been an administrator in Cricket Association of Bengal,” Khanna told

Khanna said that BCCI’s position at the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the financial health of first-class cricket are among the matters that need to be addressed immediately.
“There are many issues. Domestic cricket issues, issues with the ICC. Providing regular grants and improving the infrastructure in state [associations], developing cricket in the north-east and helping them with grounds.”
After filing his nomination, president-elect Ganguly had revealed that first-class cricket will be his top agenda.
In the CoA regime, the BCCI introduced cricket in the north-east [from the 2018-19 season]. “It is one of our achievements. I want to thank everyone for their support,” Khanna added.
