Andhra Colts stayed in the race for a slot in the knock-out berth with an emphatic, six-wicket win over Comptroller and Auditor General in the Coromandel King All India Moin-ud-Dowla Gold Cup limited-overs cricket tournament here on Sunday.

Chasing a target of 220, Andhra romped home thanks to fine half-centuries by the openers C.R. Gnaneshwar and K. Maheep Kumar.

Later on, captain D.B. Ravi Teja and D. Swaroop Kumar chipped in with useful contributions to ensure that CAG was out of contention.

Earlier, Ankit Kaushik slammed a stroke-filled 84 (107b, 4 x 4, 2 x 6) and in the company of hard-hitting Biplab Samantray (46, 51b, 3 x 4) helped CAG to 219 for seven in 50 overs.

It was a good comeback by CAG after being reduced to 60 for five in 20 overs. Pacer S.K. Kamaruddin once again bowling a fine spell, getting rid of openers Cimtimoy Basu (0) and Ankit Lamba (2) in quick succession.

However, a crucial 104-run stand between Ankit and Biplab for the sixth wicket put the innings back on rails.

President’s XI wins

HCA President’s XI scored an eight-wicket win over Combined Districts XI in another match.

Batting first, Districts XI folded for 93 in 36.3 overs with left-arm spinner Tanay Thyagarajan being the pick of the bowlers with a haul of three for 16 after medium-pacers Y. Shravan Kumar and Sudeep Tyagi picked two wickets apiece.

Chasing an easy target, President’s XI was rarely in a spot of bother despite losing opener Neeraj Bist (1) cheaply in the fourth over.

Opener Vamshi Vardhan Reddy (40 not out, 52b, 2 x 4, 3 x 6) and Buddhi Rahul (39, 28 , 5 x 4, 1 x6)  put on 60 runs for the second wicket to guide President’s XI to a comfortable win.

The scores:

Combined Districts XI 93 in 36.3overs (Tanay Thyagarajan three for 16) lost to HCA President’s XI 94 for two in 17.2 overs (Vamshi Vardhan Reddy 40 not out, Buddhi Rahul 39).
