Eoin Morgan reached figures of 7000 runs in his 200th ODI appearance for England (highest by any English cricketer) in the ICC World Cup 2019's opening game against South Africa at The Oval on Thursday.
The England captain's 200th outing could have been more memorable, had he not got out for 57 to Imran Tahir, caught by Aiden Markram at long-on.
After put in to bat, Imran Tahir struck second ball of the first over of the match, with the wicket of Jonny Bairstow for a duck. England revived well with a hundred-run stand by Jason Roy and Joe Root — both scoring fifties.
England was pegged back with wickets of Roy and Root in two overs but Morgan tagged along with Ben Stokes to put the host's innings on the track with a partnership of 106 runs for the fourth wicket to lay the platform for a big total.
Dublin-born Morgan, who has started his career playing for Ireland in 2006, played 23 ODIs for the Irish before switching to England in 2009. He has captained England in 101 ODIs so far.
