Rohit Sharma became the most capped player in Asia Cup history during India’s Group A match against Hong Kong in Dubai on Wednesday.
The Indian captain surpassed Mahela Jayawardena’s tally of 28 matches to become the player to feature in most matches in the tournament. The Asia Cup was first played in 1984 in the UAE and has witnessed 15 editions since.
The 34-year-old Rohit has featured in all Asia Cup editions since 2008, making him the first Indian to feature in seven series of the tournament.
Rohit has amassed 895 runs in 27 innings at an average of 40.68 in Asia Cup. Rohit’s solitary century in the tournament, an unbeaten 111, came against Pakistan in the 2018 edition in Dubai. Rohit had also led India to its seventh Asia Cup title in 2018, in the absence of then ODI skipper Virat Kohli.
