Rajasthan Royals has plans to prevent another onslaught from the hard-hitting Andre Russell when it takes on Kolkata Knight Riders here on Sunday, according to K. Gowtham, the team’s off-spinner.

Russell has had a hand in all three of Knight Riders’ wins so far, having scored 207 runs at an average of 103.50 and a strike-rate of 268.83.

Acknowledging Russell’s purple patch, Gowtham said, “He has been in very good form. He has been hitting a lot of sixes and he is doing well for his team. We do have a plan set for him and hopefully it comes [off].”

‘Peaking at the right time’

Gowtham was happy his team dusted itself off after three losses to defeat Royal Challengers Bangalore in its last contest. He said, “Yes we were having certain hiccups but we are peaking at the right time and doing well. In the last game against [Royal Challengers] everything came out really well. We want to carry on the winning momentum. It was not that we had bowled badly but it was just that we couldn’t come out at the crucial time and we couldn’t perform. It’s just that.”

Commenting on Shreyas Gopal, who played a significant role in the win by dismissing Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, Gowtham said, “We have played together for long (the two play for Karnataka) and have a good rapport. We talk about the wicket and conditions often.”

Besides contributing with the ball, Gowtham is also hoping to showcase his capabilities with the bat. “Yes I would like to showcase my talent [with the bat] if I get an opportunity but with top order performing so well I don’t think they need that much of hitting power.”
