RR vs CSK Highlights IPL 2023: CSK 170/6 (20), RR 202/5 (20) Rajasthan beats Chennai by 32 runs

“They scored quite a bit above par. We gave away too many in the first six. At the same time, wicket was great to bat on. Bowlers bowled well in the middle overs but a lot of edges went for boundaries, at least 5-6 went for them and that had made an impact. They had par-plus and we couldn’t get a good start in the power play with the bat. I felt Pathirana’s bowling was good, he didn’t bowl badly. I think the scorecard doesn’t reflect how well he bowled. Yashasvi batted really well, was important to go after the bowlers and it was important to take calculated risks. We had to assess what a good length is, as captain you tell them but initially, we have away a few boundaries and after that you’re always playing catch up. In the end of the innings, Jurel batted well but I think it’s the first six where it got away from us. This is a very special venue, my first ODI hundred in Vizag gave me 10 games but the 183 I made here gave me another one year. It was great to be back here.”

Kuldip Yadav gives just four runs from his final over and dismisses Shivam Dube off the last ball as the batsman falls for a 33-ball 52 but Chennai falls short by 32 runs. Brilliant game for Rajasthan as they put runs on the board and then their bowlers executed the plans to perfection.

Sanju Samson takes a review for a caught behind but Jadeja survives while trying to hammer a delivery that was bowled way outside the off stump. With a single Dube hits his third consecutive half-century off 29 balls and that’s a very good knock. Chennai needs 37 from 6 balls.

Chennai has taken the game deep with Dube playing a brilliant knock but they need boundaries to get over the line. Jadeja gets a couple of boundaries but sixes are the need of the hour. Chennai needs 46 runs in 12 balls.

Shivam Dube has continued his rich vein of form as he drills Holder for a huge maximum down the ground and then squeezed one behind point to get a boundary and keep Chennai in the hunt. Dube ends the over with a boundary as Chennai needs 58 runs in 18 balls.

Sandeep Sharma is back into the attack and gives just four runs from his over and this is excellent bowling. Absolutely no room for Dube to free his arms and go for the big shots. Chennai needs 74 runs in 24 balls.

Dube is keeping Chennai in the hunt as the southpaw smokes Zampa into the stands and that’s a massive hit. Moeen Ali skips down the track to hit the spinner for a boundary but Zampa has his man as Samson takes an excellent catch with Moeen getting an edge while trying to play the cut shot. Jadeja walks in and gets off the mark with a single. Rajasthan closing in the game.

Shivam Dube smokes Ashwin for back-to-back sixes - first over the long-on boundary and then pulls the spinner over the deep mid-wicket. The required rate is almost 15 rpo against the current rate of 8.1 and Ashwin pulls back things giving 15 runs from his over.

Moeen Ali is keeping Chennai in the hunt as he tonks Chahal over the deep backward square leg for a maximum and then pockets a boundary to the wide of third man and these are crucial runs for Chennai.

Moeen Ali, just with just an extension of arms lofts Holder for a maximum and the ball sails over the long-off for a maximum. Rajasthan can afford that as after a double-wicket over from Ashwin, Chennai is under the pump.

Ashwin strikes and Rajasthan is well and truly on top of this game. Rahane falls as Buttler takes an easy catch and Chennai is imploding in the run chase. Buttler was patrolling the long-on boundary and ran towards his right to pack off the man in form. Ambati Rayudu walks in and immediately walks back as the Impact Player doesn’t make much difference. Rayudu sweeps straight to Jason Holder at deep mid-wicket and falls for a duck to leave Chennai in trouble.

Zampa strikes and he denies Gaikwad a half-century as the batsman got a top edge while trying to smack the spinner for a maximum and Padikkal took an excellent catch. Pressure on Chennai as Dube joins Rahane.

Ashwin back into the attack and nearly got Rahane back in the hut as a chip shot saw Riyan Parag put in a valiant dive but couldn’t latch on to the catch.- Gaikwad is approaching his half-century but the asking rate is only climbing up for Chennai. The yellow army needs some really big overs. Time for a break.

Ruturaj Gaikwad has dropped anchor and is nearing his half-century with Rahane dropping anchor at the other end. The wind has been an issue for both batsmen and bowlers. Gaikwad finishes the over with an excellent pull shot for a boundary and Chennai needs more of those.

CSK has scored the lowest PowerPlay in this season as Chahal comes into the attack and concedes a boundary. Ajinkya Rahane joins Gaikwad as the fifty is up for Chennai. A good partnership is the need of the hour coupled with some big hits.

Spin from both ends and Adam Zampa strikes to end Conway’s scratchy innings. Rajasthan breaks the opening stand at the end of PowerPlay as Zampa strikes and the Royals boss the bowling PowerPlay also. Chennai is in trouble as the asking run-rate is only creeping up.

Ashwin into the attack and the ace spinner knows exactly what needs to be done. Gaikwad takes on the spinner and hits over the extra cover region for a boundary and the wind stopped the ball from crossing over the ropes. A quicker one to end the over and Rajasthan has kept the CSK openers under control.

Jason Holder into the attack and the West Indian replaces Kuldip, who started well. CSK is under pressure inside the PowerPlay and Sanju Samson is marshalling his troops excellently. Swing and miss with the required rate steadily climbing up, both Conway and Gaikwad are under pressure. Gaikwad takes off the pressure with a boundary and a maximum as Chennai makes a move on in chase of 203.

This is excellent from Rajasthan as the opening bowling pair hasn’t allowed the Chennai openers to get off the hook and the fielding has been superb. Samson standing up to Sandeep is an indication that Rajasthan is attacking for wickets while defending a tall total. Sandeep gives just a single and what a fantastic over this has been.

Kuldip Yadav, the Impact Player is into the attack and the Rajasthan unit looks charged-up. A leading edge fell safely as Gaikwad survived and then gets a life as an ambitious pull shot saw the batsman getting a top edge but Chahal couldn’t hold on to the catch. An eventful over comes to an end.

Gaikwad is off the mark with a couple to the deep backward square leg. There is a hint of swing and Sandeep bowls a peach of a delivery to beat Conway’s defence. However, the batsman opened his account with a boundary, with a superb flick.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway are in the middle and for Rajasthan it will be Sandeep Sharma who will start proceedings with the new ball. Kuldip Yadav, the left-arm seamer is the Impact Sub in place of Shimron Hetmyer. Here we go!

Jurel has made an impression with a brilliant cameo as he smacks Pathirana for a six over the deep fine leg and then a boundary to pocket 10 from the first two balls. But, the brilliance of Dhoni packs off Jurel with an under-arm direct hit and the batsman was way short of his crease. Padikkal fetches another boundary down to the fine leg boundary and then pockets three to power Rajasthan to a massive score. Dhoni clearly isn’t happy with the fielding effort from Dube and he walks back livid. This is the first time 200 has been scored in Jaipur and Rajasthan will fancy its chances.

Padikkal is riding his luck despite living dangerously but these are useful runs for Rajasthan. A boundary to the fine leg boundary takes Rajasthan past the 170-run mark. Jurel exhibits his class by drilling Deshpande down the ground for a boundary and then smoking the bowler over long-on for a maximum. Clean striking from the youngster.

Pathirana is bowling well but is unfortunate to concede a couple of boundaries with Padikkal just managing to get his bat on the yorker-length deliveries. The under-edges and the outside edges do tick the scorecard and Rajasthan wouldn’t mind.

Chennai’s strength lies in picking wickets in the middle overs and choking the opposition. The template is looking exactly the same as Hetmyer chops on with Theekshana dismissing the big-hitter and that might hurt Rajasthan. Devdutt Padikkal employs the sweep to perfection and pockets a boundary as the 150 is up for Rajasthan. Theekshana finishes an excellent spell registering figures of 4-0-24-1.

Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel will look to maintain the run-rate and take the attack to the opposition. Pathirana nails in the yorkers then surprised Jurel with a short ball but the batsman did manage to connect the pull as the ball went to the boundary.

There is a change in body language from the Chennai players as they are showing more intensity on the field, trying to stop the batsmen from taking twos and Dhoni has given a stare to a couple of players. Moeen Ali rolls out a decent over, and most importantly didn’t concede a boundary.

Tushar Deshpande strikes and he removes Rajasthan skipper Sanju Samson. The batsman fell while trying to up the ante but couldn’t clear the long-on boundary as Gaikwad took a neat catch. Deshpande then removed the dangerous Jaiswal who fell while trying to hit the bowler out of the park but got a leading edge with Rahane taking an excellent catch. Jaiswal falls for a brilliant 43-ball 77 and misses out on scoring a century but has played a gem of a knock. Two wickets and seven runs from Despnade’s over and Chennai pulling things back at the back end of the innings.

Jaiswal is in such good touch and this time he sweeps Jadeja through the square carpet and the ball races away to the fence. Top shot from a man in form and the timing has been the hallmark of his knock. Samson gets going as he went on his back foot and hammered Jadeja over the mid-wicket for a boundary. Royals motoring on nicely.

Matheesha Pathirana into the attack and Jadeja pulled off an excellent stop in the deep by dragging the ball back and stopping a certain boundary. The bowler with a Malinga-like action starts in a decent fashion giving nine runs from his opening over.

Jadeja continues and he has kept Samson quiet the Rajasthan skipper has relied on singles so far with Jaiswal fetching the boundaries. Top over from Jadeja as he gives just four runs from his third over.

Jaiswal greets Moeen Ali into the attack with a brilliant six - this time going inside out, up and over the extra cover region and what an innings Jaiswal has been playing. He is looking solid and the 100 comes up for Rajasthan and they are going at 10 rpo. Great going from the Royals.

Jadeja strikes and the all-rounder removes Buttler to break the 86-run opening stand and Chennai will breathe a sigh of relief. Buttler skips down the track but fails to clear Shivam Dube at long-on. The opener departs for a 21-ball 27 but has played his part by forging a brilliant stand with Jaiswal. Sanju Samson gets off the mark with a single.

Rajasthan openers continue to attack and runs are coming thick and fast with Jaiswal crossing his half-century. Theekshana has purchased some turn and an inside edge off Buttler narrowly escaped Dhoni’s big gloves. How costly will be the drop by Dhoni? Theekshana finishes his third and has been economical.

Ravindra Jadeja into the attack and Jaiswal with an excellent switch-hit continues to pile agony on Chennai. A brilliant shot as the batsman punishes the spinner over the backward point region and with a single brings up his half-century in 26 balls. Excellent half-century.

Buttler joins the party as he drills Theekshana’s carrom ball over the bowler’s head for a boundary and the key of the shot was Buttler’s backfoot that was planted inside the crease and which gave the batsman ample time to execute the shot. Buttler ended the PowerPlay with a solid punch off the backfoot for a boundary. Rajasthan bosses PowerPlay.

There is no stopping Jaiswal as he dispatched Deshpande high over the deep square leg boundary with an excellent pick-up shot and that was a monstrous hit by the opener. The fifty is already up for Rajasthan inside the PowerPlay and this is a fabulous opening stand, the fourth time the duo has stitched a half-century stand.

Maheesh Theekshana into the attack as Dhoni introduces spin early in an attempt to stem the flow of runs. He almost had Jaiswal trapped as the batsman missed the sweep shot, CSK went for a review but the ball was pitching just outside leg. CSK loses its first review. Just three runs from Theekshana’s opening over.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has teed off and what a brilliant start the opener has given to Rajasthan. He has torn apart Akash Singh first by smashing the bowler over the long-on for a maximum and then fetching three boundaries, striking at 281.81! What a fantastic PowerPlay and all credit to Jaiswal.

Buttler relies on pure timing and rides on the top of the bounce and drives Tushar Deshpande through the covers for a wonderful boundary. The timing was simply exceptional from Buttler. The bowler does well to correct his line as Despande drags his length back and beats the outside edge of Buttler on a couple of occasions. Buttler, however, managed to find a boundary by guiding a length delivery through the slip cordon for a boundary.

Excellent start from Jaiswal as he opened his account with a beautiful boundary, driving Akash Singh through the covers and then drills the fast bowler through the extra cover region for back-to-back boundaries to give Rajasthan a fine start. The southpaw then flicked one through the mid-wicket to pocket three boundaries in the opening over. Buttler is off the mark with a single.

Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal will be opening the batting for Rajasthan in its 200th IPL game and for Chennai, it will be Akash Singh who will start proceedings with the new ball. Here we go!

Rajasthan wins toss, opts to bat first

“In terms of the pitch being used it is pitch number 5 and it will impact the boundary sizes. It is equidistant square - 66 meters, but straight it is 78 meters. There wasn’t as much grass in the game where Lucknow defended 154. But the big change this evening is the even covering of grass. That is not to say it is going to be bouncing everywhere and seaming everywhere, it may start a little bit like that, however, I think the batters are going to turn up this evening and think this is way better for batting, 154 may not be enough this evening.”
