M. S. Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh.

The two stalwarts of Indian cricket in the 21st century have experienced a tepid Indian Premier League this season so far. Yuvraj set the tone for the tournament with a match-winning 62 but fizzled out in the rest of his outings. M. S. Dhoni has a highest score of 28 in five matches, his indifferent form coinciding with his team’s indifferent form: Rising Pune Supergiant occupies the bottom spot, with two wins and three losses.

In contrast, Yuvraj has not been missed as much as his colleagues - David Warner, Moises Henriques, Shikhar Dhawan, and most recently, Kane Williamson - have built a fortress for success. Sunrisers Hyderabad currently occupies second spot having played a match less than table-topper Kolkata Knight Riders. It is too early yet to note this form with any seriousness, as the tournament has a long way to go.

Dhoni and Yuvraj could come back to form on Saturday when their teams meet. It could stir up the crowd in Pune. Dhoni’s return to form will mean a lot for his team, even if it features in a loss.
