Delhi Daredevils, placed bottom on the points table, is out of the league but its wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is among the highest run-getters this season. The southpaw scored 582 runs in 12 games — one hundred and four fifties — at an average of 52.90 and is second in the Orange Cap race, led by Kings XI Punjab’s K.L. Rahul (652 runs in 13 games).
As DD nears the business end of its dismal campaign, Pant would be keen to end on a high. The game against Chennai Super Kings, at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground in New Delhi on Friday, will provide him a chance to overtake Rahul. But, he has a competitor in Ambati Rayudu.
Rayudu, in the fifth spot, with 535 runs in 12 games, has the firepower to run away with the honour. The CSK opener struck a hundred and two fifties at an average of 48.63. He also smashed 29 sixes; Pant is a bit ahead with 31 to his name.
