Assam and Puducherry bagged wins on the second day of the Vijay Hazare Trophy Plate group in Dehradun on Wednesday.
The other match between Uttarakhand and Chandigarh ended in a washout.
In a rain-curtailed 28-over-a-side fixture, Puducherry opened its campaign with a four-wicket win over Meghalaya at Abhimanyu Cricket Academy.
Batting first, Meghalaya was bundled out for a paltry 107, courtesy a four-wicket haul by Sagar Trivedi.
Chasing a low total, Puducherry found itself in a spot of bother as Abhay Negi scalped a four-four to reduce it to 68-6. However, Suresh Kumar’s unbeaten 37 off 45 balls and veteran Vinay Kumar’s 20 not out off 20 balls helped Puducherry cross the finish line.
In the other game, Assam too began its campaign with a win, defeating Mizoram by 113 runs. Mizoram’s decision to bowl first paid early dividends as it scalped two early wickets, dismissing Rahul Hazarika and Riyan Parag with only 12 runs on the board.
However, Swarupam Purkayastha and Gokul Sharma stood firm and added 159 runs together before Sharma was dismissed for 57 off Abrar Kazi. That helped Assam amass 324 runs. In reply, Mizoram was restricted to 211-6.
