UP-W vs MI-W Highlights WPL 2024: Saika Ishaque takes three, Mumbai beats UP by 42 runs

Nat Sciver-Brunt, Harmanpreet Kaur and Amelia Kerr set the tone as Mumbai Indians beats UP Warriorz by 42 runs. Deepti Sharma’s unbeaten half-centuty goes in vain.

Saika Ishaque lets go a caught and bowled chance and the fielding has to be addressed by Mumbai. The match has almost landed in Mumbai’s kitty with Sajana taking a catch and handing Saika her third wicket.

Deepti Sharma punches Saika Ishaque for a boundary, the sweep is her go to option, but this knock will boost her confidence with the bat. 

Amanjot Kaur into the attack for the first time in WPL. The right-arm medium fast bowler is being tested, given the cushion that Mumbai has and she does well.

Saika Ishaque has taken some beating from Deepti Sharma, with the batswoman scoring back to back boundaries, and the full tosses aren’t helping Mumbai. 

UP never got going with the run chase and their reading of the conditions went horribly wrong. Nat Sciver-Brunt with a length delivery cleans up Poonam. Sajana then took a spectacular catch to leave UP seven down.

Hayley Matthews had Deepti Sharma but the umpire’s call stays. The match is in Mumbai’s hands despite Harmanpreet missing another catch. 

Vastrakar on the target as she cleans up Shweta Sehrawat to leave UP five down. Top bowling from Mumbai are they are right on top of the game. 

Shweta Sehrawat finds the backward square fence but UP needs more of those as the run-rate is now touching 13 rpo. The fifty is up, but UP needs 103 runs in 48 balls. 

Nat Sciver-Brunt into the attack, and Shweta Sehrawat goes downtown with a beautiful connection, hammering the bowler over the long-off. 

Saika Ishaque strikes, and the swing and miss technique brings the curtains down on Grace Harris’ innings after smacking the spinner for a maximum over long-on. Another opportunity shelled with Harmanpreet drooping a simple catch. 

Pooja Vastrakar introduced into the attack, and she almost had Grace Harris trapped in front of the wickets. Excellent review by Harris, as the ball was missing the stumps. Nevertheless, Mumbai calling the shots.

The required run-rate has gone past 11 rpo and after 14 deliveries, Grace Harris smokes Matthews to a maximum. Mumbai being impressive with their bowling show.

Shabnim Ismail continues with her magnificent line and length as Mumbai tightens its grip over the match. A couple of DRS calls were in place, but Harmanpreet chose not to review them. 

Deepti Sharma and Grace Harris have a tough job in their hands and the sweeps have to be converted into boundaries. PowerPlay is owned by Mumbai.

Shabnim Ismail strikes, and she castles Alyssa Healy and Mumbai, dictating terms at the moment. The leg stump gets knocked down with a peach of an in-swinger that swung in to light up the bails. UP in big trouble. 

Spin into the attack and it’s Healy Matthews. The move worked as Chamari Athapaththu hits a flighted straight to the fielder at covers. Grace Harris comes out and joins her skipper.

Shabnim Ismail gives Mumbai the poise and control sticking to a brilliant line and length. Chamari Athapaththu joins Alyssa Healy.

Right then, the chase now begins with Kiran skipping down the track and slapping Saika Ishaque over the deep for a maximum. However, Saika has the last laugh as the spinner breaches through the defence of Kiran to give Mumbai an early breakthrough.

Shabnim Ismail opens the attack as Alyssa Healy and Kiran Navgire aim to give UP a good start. 

Amelia Kerr has played a lovely hand and so as Sajana as Mumbai has put a defending total on the board. 

Dropped! Sophie Ecclestone puts down a sitter at mid-off and hands Kerr a life. Grace Harris then allows the ball to roll through the long-on carpet! Poor fielding from UP.

Sophie Ecclestone back into the attack, and Kerr using the pace of the bowler to fetch a boundary to third man. A drop catch gives Saja a life.

Sanjana getting a boundary of the first ball of the over as Chamari Athapaththu comes back into the attack. A thick edge was dropped by Healy as Kerr survives.

Amelia Kerr and Amanjot Kaur have a job in their hands, and a run-out opportunity goes begging. Nevertheless, Deepti gets Amanjot who hits straight down the throat of the fielder at the deep-square leg. UP in command. 

The return to pace has worked for UP as Saima uproots the off-stump to pack off Harmanpreet Kaur. The captain departs for a 30-ball 33, and this is a brilliant change from UP. 

Gayakwad into her third over, and this innings has been overloaded with spin. Harmanpreet smashes the first six of the evening, with a well-connected sweep over the deep mid-wicket. The 100 is up for Mumbai

The match is poised nicely, with UP striking at regular intervals and Mumbai holding the fort with Harmanpreet in charge. Amelia Kerr with a wonderful shot through the backward point region, injects hope and light into the Mumbai dugout.

Rajeshwari Gayakwad gulps a boundary and then castles Nat Sciver-Brunt who falls for a brillianT 31-ball 45, and the 59-run stand is broken. The arm ball doing the trick as the ball deceives the batswoman and crashes on to the middle stump.

Deepti Sharma back into the attack and there is no stopping Nat Sciver-Brunt who manufactures a lovely cut short through the covers to bring the 50-run partnership in 42 balls. Mumbai takes back the control of the innings.

Mumbai has found the momentum as Sophie Ecclestone bowls a full toss that was dispatched to the backward square leg boundary by Harmanpreet. A DRS call went in the umpire’s favour as Harmanpreet survives.

First signs of medium pace as Saima Thakor comes into the attack and Harmanpreet with a boundary gets the fifty up for Mumbai. It’s all about timing, and Harmanpreet nails it through the square, and then Nat Sciver-Brunt drills through covers to push Mumbai ahead. 

Spin is what the UP captain has decided for the menu today as Deepti Sharma comes into the attack. Nat Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet Kaur are ticking the scorecard and nicely building a partnership. 

Nat Sciver-Brunt welcomes Sophie Ecclestone into the attack with a lovely pull through the wide of long-on. Mumbai is up and running.

More spin as Rajeshwari Gayakwad is introduced into the attack, but this time Nat Sciver-Brunt punishes the left-arm spinner with back-to-back boundaries. A lot of square-boundaries have come so far, and UP needs to arrest the run flow. PowerPlay done and dusted, and UP will be happy.

Nat Sciver-Brunt holds the key as UP persists with spin, but Nat Sciver-Brunt with a brilliant short through the covers, has kept the scorecard ticking. A risky single almost cost Mumbai another wicket. Nat Sciver-Brunt is lucky to continue her innings. 

Chamari Athapaththu strikes again, this time with the wicket of Yastika Bhatia. Brilliant strat from UP Warriorz and the ladies are on fire! A sweep shot only resulted in a dismissal as the ball landed safely in the hands of Poonam at backward square leg.

Nat Sciver-Brunt in the middle, and she goes back, uses the depth of the crease to pull Grace Harris to the deep mid-wicket boundary. 

Spin from both ends as Chamari Athapaththu comes into the attack and gives the breakthrough with the huge wicket of Matthews, who hits straight to Ecclestone at mid-on. What a start!

Spin is what UP Warriorz backed with Grace Harris opening the attack. Yastika gets going by throwing her hands away and securing a boundary through the off-side.
