Germany eased past Nigeria in the first of the Women's World Cup round of 16 matches in a 3-0 win. Alexandra Popp (20'), Sara Dabritz (27') and Lea Schuller (82') scored for the Germans, who will now face the winner of Sweden vs Canada in the last-8.
Alexandra Popp, whose header opened the account for Germany, made her 100th international appearance on Saturday.
With her 27th-minute spot-kick, Sara Dabritz became the first German player to score in three consecutive Women's World Cup games since Birgit Prinz (5 in a row in 2003).
In the second match, Norway claimed its place in the quarterfinal with a 4-1 penalty shoot-out victory over Australia after an enthralling 1-1 draw in Nice. Isabell Herlosven scored the opener, but Elise Kellond-Knight scored directly from a corner seven minutes from time to force extra-time.
Herlovsen's 31st-minute goal meant she has now scored six goals in the World Cup, with this being her second in the knockout stage.
Herlosven's goal also meant Australia became the fourth different nation to concede at least 50 goals at the FIFA Women's World Cup, alongside Canada (51), Japan (57) and Nigeria (63).
In extra-time, Alanna Kennedy was sent off after tugging on the shirt of Lisa-Marie Karlseng Utland as she raced through on goal and Kennedy was the last defender. She became the first Australian to be sent off at the World Cup since Alicia Ferguson vs China in 1999. It was also the first straight red card shown at this year's tournament.
In the penalty shoot-out, star player Sam Kerr missed from the spot as Australia was knocked out 4-1 on penalties (1-1 after full-time). With this, Australia failed to progress to the quarterfinal for the first time since 2003.
