France became the first country to play in consecutive FIFA World Cup finals since Brazil in 2002 and the first European side to achieve the feat since West Germany in 1990.
Les Blues had to suffer multiple injury blows before the tournament began, including Paul Pogba being ruled out of the tournament and Ballon D’Or winner Karim Benzema leaving the French camp on the eve of Qatar 2022 with a thigh injury.
Nevertheless, Didier Deschamps’ side fought through to make it to the final, where it fought until the last breath, thanks to historic hattrick by Kylian Mbappe, only to see a 2-4 loss on penalties to Argentina, led by Lionel Messi.
But the two-time World Cup winner will look to forget the final as all of its players return to club football within a week after the end of Qatar 2022.
Where will Kylian Mbappe play after the FIFA World Cup?
Mbappe scored a hattrick for France in the final, becoming only the second player after Sir George Hurst to do so, and will always be remembered for his valiant attempt to make a comeback against Argentina.
The 24-year-old will next be in action for Paris Saint-Germain and will be in action alongside Messi, who returns after winning the Cup against the youngster.
