ATK Mohun Bagan came up with the second big foreign signing of the season by drafting in one of the most consistent attackers in the Indian Super League, Hugo Boumous, on Thursday.
The Frenchman, who played as an attacking midfielder with champion Mumbai City FC last season, joins Finnish playmaker Joni Kauko in the heart of ATK MB’s attack.
Boumous, who won the golden ball (best player) award in the 2019-20 ISL season whie playing for FC Goa, has signed a five-year contract with ATK MB. This is an unprecedented development involving a foreigner in ISL history.
According to sources, the club has paid more than ₹2 crore in transfer fees to acquire Boumous, who was one of key names that helped Mumbai City win both the League Winner’s Shield and the maiden ISL crown last season.

Superb attack
With ATK MB looking to retain forward and last year’s golden ball winner Roy Krishna, the previous edition’s runner-up will have one of best attacks in the country once the process is completed.
“I am always hungry to win the trophy. I have brought success to the clubs that I have played in. And I shall keep this in mind as I play again. I will do my best to win. I am looking forward to seeing the passion and excitement of the Green and Maroon supporters after winning the match. My goal is to win the AFC Cup and the Indian Super League,” Boumous said in a statement.
