ATK captain Roy Krishna (bottom left extreme) won and scored two penalties to put his side 2-0 up against Jamshedpur FC.

ATK notched up its third successive win, defeating Jamshedpur 3-1, in the Indian Super League encounter at the Salt Lake Stadium here on Saturday. All the four goals come in the second half, three off penalties.

The contest, played under a heavy, non-stop downpour, did not see much action in the opening session as the teams tried to come to grips with the tough conditions.

The first opportunity came ATK’s way in the seventh minute when Jamshedpur FC goalkeeper Subrata Paul cleared a back-pass from centre-back Memo into the path of the approaching ATK forward David Williams. The latter, however, failed to make the most of the opportunity.

Jamshedpur had a chance in the very next minute when Piti dribbled past ATK defender Pritam Kotal and sent a superb cross to the goalmouth. Farukh Choudhary rose for the header and made a great connection but saw the ball come off the cross-piece.

Things took a turn for the better after the breather as ATK started building up effective attacks, thanks to the efforts of striker Roy Krishna. The Fijian’s effort bore fruit in the 57th minute when he was brought down inside the box by Jamshedpur centre-back Tiri. Krishna converted from the spot to give ATK the lead.

Rewarded again

The host kept up the pressure and was rewarded with another penalty 11 minutes later when Krishna was tripped by Memo inside the box. The ATK forward made no mistake with the penalty this time too.

Jamshedpur narrowed the margin in the 85th minute when it was awarded a penalty and forward Sergio Castel found the target.

ATK was, however, not finished yet as substitute Edu Garcia made it 3-1 in injury time to complete a hat-trick of victories.
