If the Blasters superstar Dimitar Berbatov still has the exquisite touch that he was once famed for, there could be an interesting contest within the Kochi team itself.

Imagine having a former EPL Golden Boot winner, which Berbatov is, and the ISL’s all-time highest goal-getter Iain Hume in same team. And just think what sort of magic it could create!
Hume, who is returning to the Blasters after two years with Atletico Kolkata, feels that this could be the strongest-ever Blasters side, at least on paper.
“On paper, I think it could be. We have a good squad put together, hopefully, we can win the cup this time,” said the 34-year-old.
“The new coach has brought in some experienced players, he has brought a lot of young guys too, some very good guys. These young guys have got a lot of talent.”
But while saying so, Hume also felt that with the arrival of the two new teams, the whole scene has changed.

“It’s hard to say who’s going to win it…Mumbai looks strong, Jamshedpur is a very good team and Bengaluru has been there a long time, so they are going to be good too.”
The second edition was Hume’s best year in the ISL for he scored 11 goals that season. And this season, being longer, also means that Hume will have more opportunities to find the net.
“I don’t see it in terms of numbers…provided I’m involved, I know I can score goals. It all depends on the men around you, so you never know. I could break my record but more than that, my team needs to win,” said the Canadian.
“Last year, I wasn’t as productive (he finished with seven goals) as I was in the second year. We have a very good team and if I’m involved and we’re creating chances, the goals will come. And it’s best when the team wins.”
