Robert Lewandowski scored two goals in two minutes to give Barcelona a comfortable lead in its El Clasico against Real Madrid, at the Santiago Bernabeu in a La Liga match on Saturday.
The Polish striker opened the scoring in the 54th minute and doubled the lead two minutes later, heading Alejandro Balde’s cross into the net. He came close to completing his hat-trick 10 minutes later but the ball came off the woodwork.
Lewandowski has 14 goals in 11 La Liga games this season. He has 17 goals in all competitions in the 2024-25 campaign, with the remaining three coming in the UEFA Champions League.
The 36-year-old, who left Bayern Munich as the second-highest goalscorer of all time in the Bundesliga, to join Barcelona two years ago and has scored 74 goals and assisted 19 more in 108 appearance.
Barcelona went on to win the match 4-0 against Real Madrid, snapping Madrid’s 42-match unbeaten streak in La Liga, one game short of the Catalan giants’ all-time record.
With the win, Barca cemented its lead at the top of the league standings, having a six point cushion over its arch-rival.
Madrid travels to Valencia for its next clash on November 2 while Barca hosts another rival Espanyol a day later in the league.
