Shri Nivetha Paramanantham clinched gold medal in women’s air pistol, after topping the qualification list featuring 94 shooters in the Grand Prix of Liberation international shooting competition in Plzen, Czech Republic.
The Coimbatore girl Shri Nivetha, who had been part of the Indian women’s team in the World Cups in Gabala and Munich in the past, qualified with 578 and shot 237.3 in the final to beat Sandra Reitz of Germany by 0.9 point for the gold.
Even though there were other Indian shooters in the fray, only Arpit Goel could make it to the medal among others, in the 25-metre standard pistol.
Amanpreet Singh made the men’s air pistol final with a score of 577 in a strong field of 119 shooters, but finished eighth.
In men’s 50-metre rifle prone event, which has been taken off the Olympic programme, Gagan Narang shot 625.1 and finished placed sixth among 136 shooters.
