Sriram, Arjun triumph at Australian Open wild card play-off

Sriram Balaji and Arjun Kadhe combined well to win a thriller 6-1, 4-6, 16-14 against Riquele Te and Di Wu of China in the doubles quarterfinals of the Australian Open wild card play-off in Zhuhai, China, on Thursday.

In the semifinals, the Indian pair, which had a bye in the first round, will challenge the top seeds Mao-Xin Gong and Ze Zhang of China.

In the boys event, top seed Mann Shah beat Takeshi Koey Jian Keong of Malaysia 6-1, 7-6(5) in the quarterfinals after a bye in the first round. In the semifinals, Mann will play seventh seed Baoluo Zheng of China.

In the women’s section, Pranjala Yadlapalli will play the quarterfinals against Chihiro Muramatsu of Japan on Friday.
