Bopanna, Divij lose in second round of Paris Masters

Bopanna and Edouard Roger-Vasselin were beaten by the No.1 seeds Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic after an extended tie-break in the first round.

Asian Games gold medallists Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan met the top two seeds with their different partners and lost in the doubles second round of the ATP Masters tennis tournament in France on Thursday.

Bopanna and Edouard Roger-Vasselin were beaten by the No.1 seeds Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic after an extended tie-break in the first round. Divij and Artem Sitak who had made the draw as alternates, after waiting on site, were beaten by the second seedsMike Bryan and Jack Sock 6-4, 6-3. The second round entry was worth 90 ATP points and €18,870.

There was a lot of success for the other Indian players in doubles in the Shenzhen Challenger, as Sriram Balaji, Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, Arjun Kadhe, Saketh Myneni and Ramkumar Ramanathan made the doubles semifinals. However, the focus was on qualifier Sasi Kumar Mukund, who sustained his good run and knocked out eighth seed Filip Peliwo of Canada to make the singles quarterfinals.

Mukund will play Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain who had beaten fourth seed Prajnesh Gunneswaran in the first round.
