Sawhney downs Pannu, Faisal struggles but makes it

Kaavaya Sawhney beat seventh seed Seerat Kaur Pannu 6-3, 6-2 in the women’s first round of the Rs.300,000 Tribune Cup AITA ranking tennis tournament. On the other hand, second seed Faisal Qamar, who has been nursing injuries, was pushed to his wit’s end by Jagmeet Singh before he prevailed.

Kaavaya Sawhney beat seventh seed Seerat Kaur Pannu 6-3, 6-2 in the women’s first round of the Rs.300,000 Tribune Cup AITA ranking tennis tournament at the CLTA Complex on Monday.

The talented Farhat Aleen Qamar, from the tennis stable of Jaipur, with siblings Faisal and Fardeen who are impressive in the men’s circuit, outplayed fourth seed Sai Dedeepya 6-1, 6-1.

In the men’s section, qualfier Shashikant Rajput fought past Amit Beniwal 5-7, 6-0, 6-2. Second seed Faisal Qamar, who has been nursing injuries, was pushed to his wit’s end by Jagmeet Singh before he prevailed 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.
