Prajnesh beaten in second round

Prajnesh Gunneswaran was unable to set up a dream date with Roger Federer on grass, as he was beaten 7-6(4), 6-3 by Giudo Pella of Argentina in the pre-quarterfinals of the € 729,340 Mercedes Cup ATP tennis tournament in Stuttgart on Thursday.

In a keen contest, Pella, regular top-100 player in the professional circuit for the last few years, converted one of five breakpoints and saved two breakpoints that he faced, to meet Federer in the quarterfinals.

Prajnesh collected 32 ATP points, including 12 for qualification, and pocketed € 11,210 from his maiden appearance in an ATP event.

Meanwhile, Ramkumar Ramanathan set up a singles quarterfinals against Marcel Granollers of Spain in the Nottingham Challenger, while Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan made the doubles semifinals with Austin Krajicek of the US.
