Eyes firmly set on Olympics, the Indian men’s and women’s wrestling teams have left for Georgia and Bulgaria to prepare for the Rio Games as well as the upcoming qualifying tournaments.

Men’s Freestyle and Greco-Roman teams, including qualified wrestlers — Yogeshwar Dutt (65kg Freestyle), Narsingh Yadav (74kg Freestyle) and Hardeep Singh (98kg Greco-Roman) — will be undergoing special training in Tbilisi, Georgia till May 4.

Meanwhile, the Indian female wrestling team, comprising Vinesh Phogat (48kg), Babita Kumari (53kg) and Geeta Phogat (58kg), will attend the training camp at Sofia, Bulgaria till May 4.

While the men’s team would be based in Tbilisi and female team in Sofia, all of them will go to Mongolia to participate in an Olympic qualifying tournament — first World Qualification tournament from April 20 to 24, before coming back to the respective cities to continue their training.

Whoever fails to qualify for the Olympics at the tournament in Mongolia, will then proceed to Istanbul, Turkey for the last Olympic qualifier — second World Qualification tournament, scheduled from May 6-8.

A 15-member India squad will be heading to Mongolia, where it will fight to acquire Olympic berths in four freestyle, five Greco-Roman and six women’s quota places.
