Indian GP events and qualification standards

The seniors’ season begins on Feb. 23 with first event in Patiala.

The Indian track and field season opens in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, on Feb. 19 with the National youth championships.

For seniors, the season begins on Feb. 23 with the first Indian Grand Prix in Patiala and will be followed by three more GP meets in Delhi (Feb. 27), Sangrur (Punjab, March 2) and Panchkula (Haryana, March 6).

The Athletics Federation of India has finalised the events for the four legs of the Grand Prix series and has also announced the qualifying standards.

With the Asian Championships (April 21-24) and World Championships (Sept. 27-Oct. 6) lined up this year (both in Doha), athletes will be hoping to make the cut for these majors. The Federation Cup, the main qualification meet for the Asian Championships, will be held in Patiala from March 15 to 18.

Meanwhile, the first international and sixth race walking Nationals will be held in Chennai on Feb. 16 to 17.

Events at Indian Grand Prix meets:

IGP-1 (Feb. 23, Patiala): 100m, 400m, 800m, 3000m steeplechase, long jump, high jump, shot put, javelin throw, discus throw (high jump only for men, the rest for men and women).

IGP-2 (Feb. 27, Delhi): 200m, 400m, 1500m, 400m hurdles, triple jump, high jump, shot put, javelin throw, discus throw (high jump only for men).

IGP-3 (March 2, Sangrur): 100m, 400m, 800m, 5000m, 400m hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot put, javelin throw, discus throw (high jump only for men).

IGP-4 (March 6, Panchkula): 200m, 400m, 1500m, 400m hurdles, triple jump, high jump, shot put, javelin throw, discus throw (high jump only for men).

Qualification standards for IGP: Men: 100m (10.80s), 200m (22s), 400m (48.50s), 800m (1:52.00s), 1500m (3:55.00s), 5000m (15:00.00s), 400m hurdles (52.50s), 3000m steeple chase (9:00.00s); long jump (7.20m), triple jump (14.50m); high jump (2.05m), shot put (16m); javelin throw (65m), discus throw (48m).

Women: 100m (12.30s); 200m (24.70s); 400m (56.50s), 800m (2:18.00s), 1500m (4:35.00s), 5000m (17:00.00s), 400m hurdles (1:02.50s), 3000m steeple chase (10:10.00s); long jump (5.90m), triple jump (11.75m); shot put (12m); javelin throw (42m), discus throw (40m).
