Afghanistan players will arrive in Bengaluru in high spirits after completing a 3-0 whitewash of Bangladesh in the recently concluded series in Dehradun.

High on confidence after winning the T20 series against Bangladesh in Dehradun, the Afghanistan cricketers will reach Bengaluru on Saturday to prepare for their debut Test against India.

The Ashghar Stanikzai-led side will be taking on a star-studded India at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru from next Thursday. With most of the Indian players already joining the camp at the National CricketAcademy, the team has started its preparation for the one-off Test.

Travelling to Bengaluru from the cooler confines of Dehradun, the Afghanistan players will have to acclimatise to the conditions fast. The squad has been stacked with four spinners and in a chat with  Sportstar last week, Afghanistan coach, Phil Simmons, had admitted that they would take a call on the team composition after taking a look at the Chinnaswamy track.

“We also have four seamers in the team. We are just preparing and we will decide (on the plan) when we reach Bengaluru. Once we see how they have prepared the wicket, we will decide whether to play four spinners or not,” Simmons had said.

With the team reaching the city five days before the Test, it is likely to get some time to prepare for the big occasion.

While it is learnt that a large number of Afghanistan fans would travel to Bengaluru for the match, rain could play a spoilsport. If the forecasts by the Meterological Centre in Bengaluru are to be believed, then there is possibility of heavy rain and thunderstorm on the match days.

However, the picture will be clearer next week. But for the moment, Afghanistan would be hoping to make the one-off Test a memorable one.
