Chepauk Super Gillies registered its first win of the tournament.

Chepauk Super Gillies thrashed Karaikudi Kaalai by 67 runs to register its first win in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) at the NPRCET grounds here on Sunday.

In reply to Chepauk Super Gillies score of 195, Karaikudi Kaalai was bowled out for 128.

It was the first win for Super Gillies after the loss against Tuti Patriots while Kaalai slumped to its second consecutive loss.

Super Gillies is at fourth and Karaikudi Kaalai is at the bottom of the table.

Chasing 196 to win, S. Anirudha was run out by a direct hit from R. Sathish. But M. Vijay Kumar ran riot, smashing three sixes and four of a Yo Mahesh over. Vijay raced to 38 of just twelve balls as Kaalai was 48 for three after three overs. Vijay followed up with a six of left-arm spinner R. Alexander, and a half-century stand with R. Srinivasan, as Karaikudi reached 69 for one at the end of power play.

R. Alexander though had the last laugh getting M. Vijay Kumar caught and bowled for 46. He then struck twice removing Badrinath and Shahjahan in successive overs as Kaalai slumped to 94 for four in the eleventh over. R. Srinivasan played a lone hand as wickets tumbled at the other end. But his dismissal - off a brilliant yorker by Antony Dhas - put Kaalai in a spot beyond redemption.

Brief scores:

Chepauk Super Gillies 195 for nine in 20 overs (R. Sathish 46, Gopinath 43, R. Sonu Yadav four for 27) bt Karaikudi Kaalai 128 in 17.1 overs (M. Vijay Kumar 46, R. Srinivasan 38, Antony Dhas four for 9, R. Alexander three for 28).
