Day 2 of the eighth round of Ranji Trophy fixtures was action-packed. Here's how the day unfolded across the venues.

Here is how things stood at the end of Day 1.

======================================================================

Vidarbha vs Mumbai: Our correspondent says: Vidarbha picks up Aditya Tare too before stumps with the batsman adjudged caught behind after attempting to cut a ball that was too close to the body. While the batsman was upset with the decision, the Vidarbha cordon and umpire Sadashiv Iyer were extremely confident of the nick. Shivam Dube has lived dangerously and been dropped twice before the close of play. At 169 for six, it's all but curtains to Mumbai's season while Vidarbha will be all but through to the knockouts and keep its title defence alive!

Andhra vs Hyderabad at Vizianagaram: Andhra finishes second day in a commanding position at 207 for three, still needing 65 runs to take a first-innings lead with Ricky Bhui and K. S. Bharat at the crease.

Vidarbha vs Mumbai: Our correspondent says: Jay Bista does a Bista. Throws it away unnecessarily. Akshay Wakhare is brought back into the attack and the opener hits a straight drive that Wakhare fails to latch onto and the ball races away to the boundary. The next ball, he charges down and attempts a wild heave, Apporv Wankhade makes good ground running backward from mid-on to take an excellent catch. Bista dismissed for 64 (111b, 6x4, 2x4). Mumbai 130 for four. As often, a wicket is followed by another. Shubham Ranjane gets an inside edge onto his pad and the ball lobs in the air. Wicketkeeper Akshay Wadkar lunges forward to take an excellent catch and give Wakhare his fourth wicket. Aditya Tare top-edges one in the next over but the balls drops short of the bowler Sarvate. Vidarbha in command while Mumbai's struggling.

Andhra vs Hyderabad: Our correspondent says: Andhra loses its third wicket, Jyothisal a leg-side trap victim to left-arm pacer Chama Milind. Andhra is 166 for three in reply to Hyderabad's 271.

Vidarbha vs Mumbai:Our correspondent Amol Karhadkar updates: Shubham Ranjane is playing a delightful innings. He is blocking the fuller balls while using his feet exceptionally well to clear the field at will. He charges down off Aditya Sarvate and tonks the bowlers over long-on for his fifth six. It's timed so well that it lands into the top tier of the grandstand. The locals feel it's the biggest six they have seen at least in a domestic match. Two balls later, he whacks the bowler for his third four to raise his bat for a well-compiled fifty. Mumbai 109 for three.

Punjab vs Kerala: Our correspondent P. K. Ajith Kumar updates: Kerala's fightback continues at Mohali. Opener P. Rahul (23 not out) and Mohammed Azharuddeen (38 not out) have taken their team to 61 for one at tea on the second day. Punjab's lead is now down to 35, as the match is turning out into a pretty interesting one after the host threatened to run away with the game on day one.

Andhra Pradesh vs Hyderabad: Our correspondent V. V. Subrahmanyam updates:

WhatsApp-Image-2018-12-31-at-144343jpeg
Andhra trails by 130 runs as of now.

Vidarbha vs Mumbai:Our correspondent Amol Karhadkar updates: Jay Bista and Shubham Ranjane play sensible cricket to see off the session for Mumbai. At 66 for three, their job is far from done.

Pondicherry vs Manipur: Priyojit departs for a duck leaving Manipur in dire straits at 44/4 after 15.6 overs.

Vidarbha vs Mumbai:Our correspondent Amol Karhadkar updates: Wakhare on fire. Iyer misreads the length and is bowled. At 31 for three, Mumbai in danger of being folded up real early. Can Jay Bista and Shubham Ranjane stem the rot?

Bengal vs Delhi: Our correspondent Y. B. Sarangi updates: Tea: Bengal 192/8 in 55 overs. Bengal lost five wkts for 79 runs. Pramanik batting at 13, Dinda batting at 2. Subodh Bhati 3/28.

Vidarbha vs Mumbai:Our correspondent Amol Karhadkar updates:Wakhare strikes off the third ball, although it was a close call by umpire Virender Sharma to adjudge leftie Vikrant Auti leg-before wicket. In the next over, captain Siddhesh Lad perishes, lbw by Aditya Sarvate. Can Shreyas Iyer play the rescue act?

Vidarbha vs Mumbai:Our correspondent Amol Karhadkar updates: In anticipation of the pitch to deteriorate, Vidarbha have gone in with three spinners and only Rajneesh Gurbani as the pace bowler. The pitch already has started showing some signs, with an odd ball keeping low. Gurbani perhaps tries too hard to soften the surface with his spikes, and receives an official warning for running on the dangerous area in his fourth over. He is immediately replaced with Akshay Wakhare, with spin from both ends being introduced as early as the ninth over.

Karnataka vs Chhattisgarh: Our correspondent Ashwin Achal updates: Team spirit aside, half expect Vinay to take More to the dressing room and say "Gate moodu da! (Close the doors!)", aka Kamal Haasan's opening scene in 'Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu'. Really loose shot from More, denied Vinay a third first class century.

Andhra Pradesh vs Hyderabad: Our correspondent V. V. Subrahmanyam updates: Andhra opener C R Gnaneshwar completes fifty as the team scores 96 for one in reply to Hyderabad's 271 on second day.

Karnataka vs Chhattisgarh: Our correspondent Ashwin Achal updates: Vinay Kumar left stranded on 90. Vishal Singh bowls one full and swinging in, More attempts a drive and gets bowled through bat and pad. Vinay throws his head back in disappointment, but pats More's back on their way out.

Punjab vs Kerala: Our correspondent P. K. Ajith Kumar updates: Punjab's first innings has come to a close half, an hour into the second session, with Sandeep Warrier having skipper Mandeep Singh caught behind by Mohammed Azharuddeen for a splendid 89.

The swing bowler finished with five for 83 from 27.2 overs, a spell that brought his team back into the game. The host, though, has a handy first innings lead of 96. Kerala's second innings will tell us how big or small that lead is.

Punjab vs Kerala: Our correspondent P. K. Ajith Kumar updates: The wind is getting stronger and colder at Mohali, where the players have just come back after lunch. Punjab is 206 for eight, with captain Mandeep Singh not out on 82. Kerala, despite its horrific effort with the bat in the first innings (121) is still in the match.

Vidarbha vs Mumbai:Our correspondent Amol Karhadkar updates:

WhatsApp-Image-2018-12-31-at-123420jpeg
Mumbai's frustrating half an hour ends with the last wicket falling in the last over of the extended morning session. Dhrumil Matkar traps Rajneesh Gurbani in front of the wickets to earn a maiden fifer and the team let him lead the flock off the field.

Andhra Pradesh vs Hyderabad: Our correspondent V. V. Subrahmanyam updates: Andhra loses opener D B Prashanth to pacer T Ravi Teja, now , 58 for one against Hyderabad in Vizianagaram.

Karnataka vs Chhattisgarh: Our correspondent Ashwin Achal updates: Vinay Kumar, ex skipper, making a huge contribution with the bat. Using the crease very well, and finding the gaps in the field. Herding the strike very well, leaving last man Ronit More with very little to do. Last wicket stand now worth 48 runs.

#StatAttack: The last lunch of 2018 is here. Mind looking at some stats brought to you by the BCCI meanwhile?

Vidarbha vs Mumbai:Our correspondent Amol Karhadkar updates: Tushar Deshpande is running through the Vidarbha tail. The speedster first got Akshay Karnewar to nick to Tare and then coerced Aditya Sarvate into a near-identical manner to ensure the lunch will be delayed with Vidarbha nine wickets down. Had captain Siddhesh Lad not misjudged a regulation catch of Akshay Wakhare at mid-off in Deshpande's previous over, the Mumbai openers could well have been taking a shower by now.

Vidarbha vs Mumbai:Our correspondent Amol Karhadkar updates: After bowling 11 overs from the far end, Matkar makes way for Tanush Kotian and the offie strikes in his third over. He gets one to turn in after pitching outside off and Apoorv Wankhade misses it, umpire Sadashiv Iyer makes an easy lbw decision. At 473 for 7, Vidarbha's tail is finally exposed. Can Aditya Sarvate work around it and frustrate Mumbai?

Andhra Pradesh vs Hyderabad: Our correspondent V. V. Subrahmanyam updates: Andhra off to a confident start scoring 57 for no loss at lunch in reply to Hyderabad's 271 with pacers rarely troubling the batsmen.

Meanwhile, there is good news for the Hitman fans:

Punjab vs Kerala: Our correspondent P. K. Ajith Kumar updates: Sandeep Warrier's first spell of the morning (9-3-14-3) has brought Kerala back into the match against Punjab at Mohali. With 40 miniutes left for lunch, and a fairly strong wind complements the seven degree Celsius weather, the host is on 178 for seven from 61 overs. Skipper Mandeep Singh is still there on 64 not out. His eighth wicket stand with Manpreet Gony could be crucial now.

Bengal vs Delhi: Our correspondent Y. B. Sarangi updates: Bengal 113/3 in 29 overs at lunch. Sudip batting at 37. Anustup Majumdar batting at 1. Khejroliya 2/49.

Vidarbha vs Mumbai:Our correspondent Amol Karhadkar updates: Been a fruitful last half an hour for Mumbai, with the team having got rid of both the overnight batsmen. Shardul Thakur, replacing Deshpande, beat Ganesh Satish with his pace off the second ball he bowled today and Satish's wait for a maiden hundred of the season prolonged. Dhrumil Matkar, who has been bowling unchanged since morning, then pitched one in the perfect channel for Mohit Kale to have no option but to nick one to Aditya Tare. But Apoorv Wankhade has been using his long handle cautiously as Vidarbha sit pretty at 459 for six

Mizoram vs Bihar: It has not been long since Bihar declared at 440 and Mizoram already finds itself in the muck at 28/3 thanks to some terrific bowling by Abhijeet.

Punjab vs Kerala: Our correspondent P. K. Ajith Kumar updates:

WhatsApp-Image-2018-12-31-at-105204jpeg
Sandeep Warrier claimed three early wickets of Punjab in the first session on Monday.

Sikkim vs Meghalaya: With 16 on the boundary counter, Punit Bisht reaches his century in 123 balls against an insipid Sikkim attack at Bhubaneswar. Meghalaya 218/2.

Vidarbha vs Mumbai: Ganesh Satish who was on 90 (160 balls) has been trapped in front by Shardul. Vidarbha at 422/5 now.

Vidarbha vs Mumbai:Our correspondent Amol Karhadkar updates: Mohit Kale, playing his fourth match, flicks Tushar Deshpande for a four to raise his maiden fifty. Satish, meanwhile, has entered into the 90s.

Karnataka vs Chhattisgarh: The perfect New Year gift? Pankaj Rao has seven wickets in his kitty now. Worth mentioning, he has just given away 48 runs in the process. Karnataka 297/8.

Bengal vs Delhi: Our correspondent Y. B. Sarangi updates:Abhishek Raman was caught behind off a beauty from Khejroliya on 11. Easwaran batting on 20. Sudip Chatterjee batting on 9. Sudip lucky that a low catch by Hiten dalal off Khejroliya was given not out. He was on 1.

Punjab vs Kerala: Our correspondent P. K. Ajith Kumar updates:Mohali woke up to an even colder morning than yesterday. It's seven degrees now, but Sandeep Warrier seems to relish the conditions. After getting opener Jiwanjot Singh caught behind by Mohammed Azharuddeen, his swing has got the other Singhs -- Mandeep and Yuvraj -- thinking too. Punjab, though is comfortably placed at 149 for three in 46 overs, in reply to Kerala's 121.

Railways vs Baroda: Baroda folds in no time for 313 as Meriwala has been sent back home for a duck, Amit Mishra the catcher this time. This lad is there on the scorecard everywhere!

Vidarbha vs Mumbai:Our correspondent Amol Karhadkar updates:It's not as chilly as it was on Sunday but Vidarbha continues to put the heat on Mumbai. The visitor took the new ball right away and chose left-arm spinner Dhrumil Matkar as Tushar Deshapnde's partner. The duo haven't been successful so far as Satish and Kale have scored 11 singles in the first four overs to help Vidarbha cross the 400-run mark.

Railways vs Baroda: Amit Mishra grabs a fifer too, Sheth his last victim. His figures read 22.5-7-71-5. Baroda is at 295/7

Andhra Pradesh vs Hyderabad: Our correspondent V. V. Subrahmanyam updates:

Karnataka vs Chhattisgarh: Our correspondent Ashwin Achal updates: Stirring stuff by pacer Pankaj Rao to pull Chhattisgarh back into the game. His morning spell reads 7-0-16-3, which includes a beauty to take out centurion Nischal. On the first ball of the day, a lovely outswinger castles a stunned Nischal.

On another note, Rasikh Dar, who recently became the the third Kashmiri cricketer to be picked at the IPL auction has created quite the buzz among Twitterati. Read his story here.

Andhra Pradesh vs Hyderabad: K V Sasikanth with some fine stuff right there as he cleans up Saaketh. Hyderabad now 241/9.

Nagaland vs Arunachal Pradesh: What in the lord's name is happening at Sovima? Nagaland which looked to have started off strong is now struggling to keep things steady. The floodgates have given way to all things nasty for Nagaland and Arunachal couldn't have been happier! Riding on some terrific bowling by Deendyal, Arunachal Pradesh finally breathes in easy.

A few minutes back, it was 182/2 and now the score reads 184/6.

Mizoram vs Bihar: Meanwhile, the big fish is also in the net! Ashutosh Aman goes after making 111. Taruwar Kohli does the honours.. Bihar 409/9.

Jharkhand vs Tripura: That's four for Rahul Shukla (20.4-5-38-4) who gets Saurabh Das's wicket cheaply. Tripura is at 253/9.

Mizoram vs Bihar: And how wonderfully have I got things jinxed! H M Ralte gets Vivek the very next ball. Ralte has been exceptional since yesterday and rightfully bags a fifer as the Bihar scoreboard reads 397/8.

Mizoram vs Bihar: Meanwhile, in Mizoram it is sad news for the home crowd as Vivek has raced to a 92-ball century. Bihar 397/7.

Nagaland vs Arunachal Pradesh: There! There! A consolation for the Nagaland fans as Paras brings up his century in 108 balls. Nagaland 170/1.

Nagaland vs Arunachal Pradesh: That's an important wicket! Sedezhalie sent back to the pavilion for 65 (110 balls), caught by Tana Davit off Licha Tehi. Nagaland 156/1
