Ranji Trophy: Punjab coasts to 7-wicket win over UP

Punjab needed just 10.1 overs and 40 minutes on the final day to score the required 51 runs for victory, losing one wicket in the process, as it completed a seven-wicket win over Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy Group A match, at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium here, on Tuesday.

Punjab needed just 10.1 overs and 40 minutes on the final day to score the required 51 runs for victory, losing one wicket in the process, as it completed a seven-wicket win over Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy Group A match, at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium here, on Tuesday.

Resuming at its overnight score of 61 for two, Punjab coasted to victory thanks to a stroke-filled half-century by opener Jiwanjot Singh (69, 82b, 10x4).

Just on the verge victory and responding to his teammates call for a big shot, Jiwanjot stepped out to left-arm spinner Saurabh Kumar only to be stumped by wicketekeeper Eklavya Dwivedi to provide the only moment of joy for Uttar Pradesh on the final day.

Punjab then completed the formalities without losing any more wickets and picked six points from this match to take its tally to 16 from five games.
