GT vs SRH Highlights, IPL 2023: GT 188/9 (20) beats SRH 154/9 (20) by 34 runs

A clinical performance from Gujarat with Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma sharing eight wickets after Shubmam Gill hammered a brilliant century to help Gujarat post a daunting total on board. Sunrisers were never in the chase after Gujarat came up with a brilliant show and became the first team to qualify for the playoffs. Great all-round stuff from Hardik and company.

Mohit Sharma bowls his final over and Markande drills the fast bowler for a maximum straight down the ground and then a boundary but that won’t hurt Gujarat. Mohit gets his fourth wicket by dismissing Bhuvneshwar and that’s an excellent spell from the pacer as he ends with figures of 4-0-28-4.

Bhuvneshwar has contributed substantially in this game, first by picking a five-wicket haul and now with the bat. Great consistency for a franchise he has played for so long. Sunrisers Hyderabad needs 53 runs in 12 balls

Shami into the attack and the fast bowler strikes by removing Klaasen who falls for a 44-ball 64 as Miller pouches a clean catch at long-off. Shami picks a four-wicket haul and finishes with brilliant figures of 4-0-20-4.

Noor continues and Gujarat will be eager to close out the innings but Klassen hasn’t given up as he is batting well and dealing in boundaries. The bowler is off the park after Klaasen drilled a delivery straight down the ground and the ball hits the ankle of the bowler. Rahul Tewatia finished the over.

The fifty-run partnership between Klaasen and Bhuvneshwar is up and Sunrisers have managed to not lose another wicket. Sunrisers needs 78 from 30 balls.

Klassen hits his second half-century in 35 balls and he has played a lone hand in the run chase with the top-order failing to fire. Good knock under pressure and he has shown discipline and consistency. Top knock!

Noor Ahmad takes a beating as Klaasen hammers the spinner for a maximum and then Bhuvi pockets a boundary to keep the scorecard ticking for Sunrisers. Klaasen approaching a well-deserved half-century.

Yash Dayal is back into the attack and he gives just four runs from his third over as Gujarat has firm control of the game. Excellent bowling.

Noor Ahmad into the attack and David Miller hands Klassen a life dropping the batsman at long-off and then the batsman hammered one down the ground for a boundary. Decent start from Noor.

Rashid and Hardik’s intention will be now to remove Klaasen as Gujarat will be aiming for a top-two finish and this has been a brilliant show from Gujarat with Hardik marshalling his troops excellently.

The chants of Hardik ring through the air as Mohit picks his third wicket with the Gujarat skipper taking a good catch to pack off Marco Jansen. Sunrisers seven down as Bhuvneshwar Kumar walks in.

Rashid makes life more difficult for the batsmen and it’s a stroll in the park for Gujarat at this moment. Klaasen and Jansen have to play a blinder of an innings to get their team over the line.

Mohit Sharma into the attack and the pacer strikes straight away by digging a short ball and Sanvir Singh going hard at it only to slash it to Sai Sudharsan at wide third-man region. This is shambolic batting from the Sunrisers top-order batsmen and half of the side is back in the hut. Abdul Samad departs and hands Mohit his second wicket by smashing one straight to mid-wicket.

Rashid Khan into the attack and he almost gets Klaasen almost in his very first delivery. However, the in-form batsman goes inside out and smokes the spinner for a maximum and that’s a brilliant shot over the extra cover region. Sunrisers need more of those to stay in the game. The PowerPlay belongs to Gujarat.

Gujarat is all over Hyderabad and Shami strikes again to leave Sunrisers four down. This time the pacer removes Markram as the Sunrisers skipper gets a leading edge and Shanaka takes a simple catch at point. Sunrisers staring down the barrel at this moment and need a miracle to gun down this total. Sanvir Singh starts with a six but Gujarat dictating terms at the moment.

Klaasen gets off the mark with a boundary through the covers and Markram drills Yash for a glorious drive through the mid-off for a lovely boundary. This is going to be a very crucial partnership.

Sunrisers are in a hurry to come back home as Abhsihek departs after playing a false shot, chasing a ball that was pitched way outside the off-stump and ending up giving an easy catch to the keeper. This is a poor start from Sunrisers and Gujarat has started extremely well.

What a start! Rahul Tewatia hands Anmolpreet a life as he drops an outside edge that Shami induced and the bowler is furious with the miss but doesn’t express his emotions. Both openers are off the mark with singles and Hardik brought a second slip. Anmolpreeet cashes in on a short and wide delivery by dispatching the pacer to a boundary. However, Shami strikes as Anmolpreet got a top edge and Rashid doesn’t drop it. Tewatia is relieved as Gujarat strikes early.

Yash Dayal has replaced Shubman Gill as the Impact Player and it’s Abhishek Sharma along with Anmolpreet Singh in pursuit of 189. Mohammed Shami with the new ball.

Gujarat Titans rode on Shubman Gill’s brilliant knock of 101 in 58 balls to post a challenging total. Gujarat suffered a last-over collapse as it lost three wickets and it lost four wickets in the final over with Bhuvi picking a five-wicket haul - three in the final over and narrowly missing a hat-trick and finishing with figures of 4-0-30-5. The fightback has been great but Gujarat will fancy its chances of defending its total, but Hyderabad has a strong batting line-up.

Gill slams his maiden IPL century and this has been a superb innings in 56 balls. The opener gets to the landmark with a pull through the mid-wicket and then took off his helmet, and bowled down to acknowledge the applause from the dug-out and the crowd. Shanaka fetches a boundary by lofting Natarajan over the mid-wicket for a boundary.

Farooqi strikes to remove Tewatia who falls while trying to up the ante. However, he couldn’t clear the ropes as Jansen took a tumbling catch. Gill takes a single and is one short of his century.

Miller kicks off with a flick to the square leg boundary but Natarajan denies further fireworks by removing the big-hitter as the batsman drills one straight down the throat of Markram at long-on as he failed to get the required elevation. Tewatia walks out and he hasn’t made an impact this season so far. Gill is nearing his century and is three runs shy of a wonderful landmark.

Bhuvneshwar strikes to pick his second wicket and Rahul Tripathi at the backward point takes a good catch to pack off Hardik Pandya. Sunrisers making inroads but they need to pick wickets in a cluster to halt the Gujarat Express with Gill approaching his century. David Miller is the new man in and he will look to tee off at the death.

Finally, Jansen breaks the stand and the partnership of 147 runs off 84 runs is the highest for Gujarat. Sai Sudharshan falls as Natarajan holds on to a top edge and the southpaw falls for a well-made 47 off 36 balls. Wanted to take on the bowler and went for a big shot but ended up getting a thick outside edge as Natarajan takes a good catch at the backward point region. Skipper Hardik Pandya walks in early and gets a boundary with a solid pull. He isn’t going to back away from playing his shots despite a fielder being stationed at the deep square leg.

Gill is in touching distance of a well-deserved century and the drive through the extra cover region showcased the class the batsman possesses. He has already hit 12 boundaries, striking at almost 185! That’s some batting.

Oh, dear! Natarajan fails to latch on to a caught and bowled and dropped Sudharsan. The luck is still smiling on the batsman’s way as Hyderabad has now handed the southpaw a third life. Another run-out chance is also missed and Sunrisers need to gather themselves to halt Gujarat’s march. Gill nearing a century while Sudharshan a fifty.

Abhishek into the attack and he would quickly like to put the hammering he received in the last game by Nicholas Pooran. Gill picks the bones out of a short ball and deposits the spinner over the deep for a maximum and then slaps another short-of-length delivery through the backward point for a boundary. The spinner needs to adjust his lengths quickly if Markram intends to give him the full quota of overs.

Nothing working for Sunrisers at the moment as Sudharshan attacks Jansen and smokes the fast bowler for a couple of maximums and then Bhuvneshwar drops a dolly at deep mid-wicket as the ball rolls into the fence. This is sloppy from Sunrisers.

Sudharsan and Gill are being tested with the spin of Markande and the southpaw has employed the sweep shot to counter spin. The 100 is up with Sudharshan playing a lovely cut shot for a boundary through the backward point region and the 100-run partnership between both the batsmen is also up. Great going from Gujarat.

Farooqi stems the flow of boundaries and bounces back well to contain the batsmen. Gujarat approaching the 100-run mark with both batsmen well-set in the middle.

Gill brings up his fifth IPL half-century in this season and this has been a sublime knock from the opener. He gets to his landmark by smashing Markande for two consecutive boundaries - the first one through the backward point and then through the square leg region. Runs flowing thick and fast for Gujarat and Sunrisers would eye to break the stand that is now worth 89 off just 46 deliveries.

Gill continues to sizzle as he hits Markram for two back-to-back boundaries and Gujarat is cruising at this stage with Sunrisers struggling to make a breakthrough.

Sudharsan welcomes Natarajan into the attack by riding on top of the bounce and driving the seamer through the covers for a boundary. The track has got a good bounce and the batsmen have made the most of it by punching the bowlers, standing tall on their toes with perfect balance. Gill then added another boundary to his kitty with a perfect on-drive. At the end of PowerPlay, Gujarat is riding on the brilliance of Gill and Sudharsan.

Marco Jansen gets some control over Gill but this has been superb from the Gujarat opener as he didn’t allow Sunrisers to dominate after the fall of Saha. A tight over from Jansen but Gujarat is up and running after being asked to bat first.

Gill plays his favourite shot - as Ravi Shastri describes as a short arm jab and that was Gill at his best. The batsman then hammered Farooqi for two more boundaries, making it a hat-trick of fours - a punch through the covers and then brought the fifty up for Gujarat with another boundary. 18 runs from the over as Gill blasts Farooqi for four consecutive boundaries in an over. Top batting.

Marco Jansen is into the attack and Sai Sudharsan is up and running with a lovely boundary as he lofts the bowler over the covers. The batsman seems to be rushing his innings as he survived a couple of direct hits and was almost back in the hut.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar packs off Saha early with an outswinger as the opener goes hard at the ball, gets a thick outside edge and Abhishek Sharma pouches one comfortably at second slip. Sai Sudharsan joins Shubman. Top start from Hyderabad.

Saha and Gill make their way to the middle and the Sunrisers in the team huddle with Markram leading the side in a must-win game. With the ball, it will be Bhuvneshwar Kumar who will start proceedings with the new ball. Here we go!
