SRH vs MI, IPL 2024: Highest scores in T20 cricket; Sunrisers registers third highest total in T20s

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) registered the third highest score in T20 cricket during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against the Mumbai Indians in Hyderabad.

There was no stopping Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. What started with the blitzkreig of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma was elevated to a full blown assault by Heinrich Klaasen and Aiden Markram. The previous best in the league was 263 by RCB, and SRH cleared it by a good 14 runs. All this after Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bowl.

SRH vs MI, IPL 2024: Sunrisers Hyderabad records highest ever Indian Premier League total during match against Mumbai Indians

After being put into bat by Hardik Pandya, SRH scored 277/3 in its 20 overs, beating the previous record of 263/5 in 20 overs by the Royal Challengers Bangalore against the Pune Warriors India in 2013.

Shams Mulani to bowl the final over. Starts with two wides. Markram swipes the first legal delivery to long on for one run. FOUR! Klaasen clobbers right down the ground. SIX! Over mid wicket, just manages to clear the fielder. This is the highest score in IPL. SIX MORE! This one is again slogged over on the on side. Two runs to end the over. SUNRISERS HYDERABAD ENDS ON 277!

Bumrah to bowl the 19th over. Can SRH crack mount 263? A wide on the second delivery from Bumrah. He nails a yorker next up. Markram gets bat to it for a single.. A slower delivery from Bumrah foxes Klaasen who is beaten outside off. FOUR! Klaasen takes it on the full and hits it through long on. FOUR more! Reads the slower delivery and whacks it through covers. Two to cow corner to end the over.

SIX off the first ball. In the slot from Coetzee and Klaasen chips it over cover. He taps the fifth delivery through the on side and runs two. Fifty for Klaasen. 11 runs in the over.

Maphaka to Markram, starts the over with a wide. Markram drives the first ball to deep cover for one. FOUR! Klaasen reads the slower ball and swots it right back over the bowler’s head. SIX! Massive! Another over-pitched ball and Klaasen lofts it straight. FOUR to finish. Markram nudges the ball between the keeper and the fine short third man.

This is now the highest score for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL.

Coetzee to bowl his third over. All three players in action from South Africa. Four wides! The plot continues to worsen for Mumbai Indians. Too far down the leg side and Ishan Kishan’s dive is not enough to save it. 12 come off the over.

Coetzee returns. Head makes room and looks to slash, takes the edge and bounces to the keeper. An unnecessary throw helps him take a single. Four byes!! Short from Coetzee, rises above Ishan Kishan and runs away to the fence. Four!! Short of a length again, Abhishek lofts it over cover for another boundary. WICKET!! Coetzee gets the danger man. Short and wide, Head cuts uppishly, slices it right up and Bumrah completes the catch at deep point.
