India Test cricketer Prithvi Shaw, who has been handed a back-dated suspension of eight months for a doping violation, has admitted that his "eagerness to play" made him take an over-the-counter cough syrup without following the protocol and being careful.
Shortly after BCCI shared the news of the 19-year-old's suspension till November 15, Shaw put out a statement on Twitter accepting his "fate with all sincerity."

The young opening batsman said he takes it in his stride and hopes others in the sports fraternity learn to be extremely careful in taking any medicine.
Shaw said, "Cricket is my life and there is no bigger pride for me than playing for India and Mumbai and I will come out of this faster and stronger..."
