Jordan Clark flourished on day one of the Roses match by dismissing three of the world's best batsmen to claim a famous hat-trick and put Lancashire on top against fierce rivals Yorkshire.

Yorkshire were ticking along nicely on 59-1 when all-rounder Clark snared England Test captain Joe Root leg before for 22 late in the first session of the County Championship Division One clash on Sunday.

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson was also trapped in front first ball and Jonny Bairstow edged the final delivery of Clark's incredible over to Jos Buttler at third slip to leave Yorkshire reeling at Old Trafford.

Clark's hat-trick was Lancashire's first in a Roses encounter since Ken Higgs achieved that feat at Headingley way back in 1968.

It is not the first time Clark has tormented Lancashire's foes from over the Pennines, having struck six sixes in an over during a second team match five years ago.
