Cheteshwar Pujara’s Sussex loses to Lancashire in Royal London Cup semifinal

Sussex got off to a solid chasing 320 runs but regular dismissals ensured that the it fell 65 runs short of the target.

Sussex County Cricket Club led by Cheteshwar Pujara lost to Lancashire Cricket Club by 65 runs in the semifinal of the Royal London One Day Cup on Tuesday.

Batting first, Lancashire amassed 319/8 with Dane Vilas scoring 121 runs off just 99 deliveries. Vilas led the comeback for his team which was reeling at 67 for five at one point.

Sussex got off to a solid start thanks to the 50-run opening partnership between Tom Alsop and Ali Orr. However, regular dismissals ensured that the Sussex fell 65 runs short of the target.

For Lancashire, Liam Hart starred with the ball and picked up three wickets while conceding only 43 runs.

Cheteshwar Pujara’s campaign at the Royal London One-Day Cup also ended with his team’s loss. The Indian batsman ended the tournament with a total of 624 runs at an average of 89.14.

Lancashire will now face Kent in the final on September 17.
