Sri Lanka was bowled out for 42, its lowest Test total in history during the day two of the first Test against South Africa in Durban on Thurday.
Marco Jansen razed through Sri Lanka’s batting line-up with career-best figures of seven for 13. Gerald Coetzee claimed two while Kagiso Rabada opened the proceedings with the first wicket of Dimuth Karunaratne.
Sri Lanka’s innings was wrapped up in just 13.5 overs -- second shortest completed innings for number of balls bowled.
Only Kamindu Mendis and Lahiru Kumara managed to get into double figures, while five Sri Lankan batters were dismissed without troubling the scorers.
South Africa was bowled out for 191 after having been put into bat with Temba Bavuma top-scoring with 70.
The island nation’s previous lowest was 71 against Pakistan at Kandy in 1994.
