Sir Viv Richards discusses a point with Sachin Tendulkar at his home in Mumbai on Tuesday evening.

Even after hanging up his boots, Sachin Tendulkar has made it a point to be in touch with his friends and colleagues from the cricket fraternity. And, on Tuesday evening, he had a very special guest at his residence in Mumbai. The guest had come all the way from the West Indies. It was Sir Vivian Richards.

For a long time, Richards wanted to meet the Little Master, and the opportunity finally came his way on Tuesday afternoon, when he spent a couple of hours at Sachin’s residence.

In India for the Goa Fest, Richards had told Sachin’s close friend Sunandan Lele about his wish to meet the former India cricketer, and Lele arranged it in quick time. “It was a family affair, and Sir Viv was extremely happy to visit Sachin after such a long time,” Lele told Sportstar .

Viv: India can occupy 'great category' with overseas success

Even though Richards has been to India quite a few times recently, this is the first time he visited Sachin’s home. While none from the cricket fraternity was invited to the closed-door event, Sachin’s brothers — Ajit and Nitin — and his father-in-law were present. “All of them are big fans of Sir Viv. So, when he came visiting, all of them came over,” Lele said.

Over tea and Indian delicacies, Richards, along with Sachin and his family talked about cricket, life and how important it is to have a life beyond the game. “It was an emotional evening for both the legends. They were extremely happy to see each other after a long time,” Lele said.

Recently in an interview, Sachin admitted that Richards had advised him to continue playing for India, even after the team’s debacle in the 2007 World Cup. And on Tuesday evening, Sachin thanked the Caribbean legend for supporting him through his career.

For a cricket romantic, such pictures make a lot of memories. And for Sachin too, it was an evening to remember.
