Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti was awarded the best men’s football coach at the Ballon d’Or 2024 Awards in Paris, France on Monday.

Ancelotti, who won the UEFA Champions League, the Spanish Super Cup and La Liga last season, has led the club to 14 major trophies over two spells and sits second in the list for most games managed at Madrid. He is the joint most-successful manager in the club’s history with Miguel Munoz, who had also won the same number of titles.

“I want to thank my Family, my President, my Club, my Players and above all Vini and Carvajal,” Ancelotti wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, after he was announced as the winner.

However, no members of Real Madrid were present at the Theatre du Chatelet, the venue for the awards as the club felt UEFA and Ballon d’Or’s organisers did not respect them.

According to the Madrid camp, Vinicius Junior was the favourite to win the men’s Ballon d’Or, which Spain and Manchester City midfielder Rodri ultimately won.

“If the award criteria doesn’t give it to Vinicius as the winner, then those same criteria should point to Carvajal as the winner,” Real Madrid told AFP.

“As this was not the case, it is clear that Ballon d’Or-UEFA does not respect Real Madrid. And Real Madrid does not go where it is not respected.”

As a result, though Real Madrid and its players won three awards, the highest joint-goalscorer -- men (Gerd Muller Trophy -- Kylian Mbappe), Best Men’s Team and the Best Men’s Team Coach, neither of the awards were collected by Los Blancos.
