Manchester United secured its first clean sheet on the Premier League 2022-23 season, winning 1-0 against Southampton at the St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday.
Bruno Fernandes’ early goal in the second half proved to be the difference as Man United registered its first win on the road since February this year.
After a goalless first half, United shifted gears in the second, attacking on the counter multiple times. In the 55th minute, Diogo Dalot raced with the ball along the right flak and whipped in a low cross for Bruno, who slotted it home, giving Erik Ten Hag’s side a well-needed lead.
Southampton tried to make a comeback into the match within 10 minutes with Adam Armstrong guiding the ball in for Joe Aribo, but David De Gea made a good save to maintain the slender lead. In stoppage time, the Saints came close again with Armstrong’s cross met by an overhead kick by Sekou Mara. Dio Dalot - who has an assist in this match - denied the equaliser with an important clearance.
With the win, the Red Devils rose to sixth in the table with six points from four matches, whit Southampton sits 13th on the table with four points from as any matches.
