France has stream rolled the Dutch side in Paris today. Newly-appointed captain Kylian Mbappe lit the way with a brace and an assist. A first-half three-goal blitz was backed up with an incredible finish late in the game to ensure a four-goal win for the French.

Maignan denies Depay from the spot. After a penalty was awarded for a hand ball, Maignan pulls off a fantastic save to preserve his clean sheet. Nothing has gone right for Netherlands tonight.

Diaby is put through on goal and he shows great composure to finish it off. But VAR intervenes and deems it an offside. But France soon makes it four and it is Mbappe again. He fakes a shot and fakes once more before unleashing a powerful drive from the edge of the box to the left bottom corner. IT IS EMPHATIC!!

Netherlands wins another corner. But it is Giroud who rises high to head the ball away. France is coasting to a comfortable win here at Paris.

Mbappe chops past a defender and has a direct sight at the goal. His left-footed shot is blocked away by Cillissen. France on the hunt for more goals.

Kolo Muani rushes past a couple of defenders. He tries to chop it back for Mbappe, but is quickly blocked off by retreating Dutch defenders.

Netherlands threatens to ruin Maignan’s clean sheet. But Weghorst couldn’t catch that shot clean. At the other end, Dutch defenders are pushed to their limit by the speed of Mbappe.

France wins a corner down the left. It is Griezmann who takes it. Rabiot rises high, but his header is off-target.

France now retreating into its own half, looking almost exclusively to play the counterattack. Mbappe and Muani offer the perfect pace for the side for that strategy.

Netherlands with a freekick and it is Depay who shoots. Maignan didn’t look too comfortable as he nicks it away for a corner.

Both teams have slowed the game down a notch, with France prioritising control over speed. Netherlands still on the look out for a goal to get itself back into this game.

Mbappe dances his way past two Dutch defenders, but he runs out of room and has to settle for a goal kick.

Second Half Begins

Netherlands has a mountain to climb with France leading 3-0. It is the home side which gets things underway.

France is in total control in this game after three early goals. Griezmann started it all with a calm finish, before his freekick led to an Upamecano goal. Mbappe added on for himself to put the home side in a comfortable position.

The game has panned out well for France and its new skipper Mbappe. Meanwhile, Weghorst gives away a cheap freekick after foul against Rabiot.

Upamecono drives forward and releases Kolo Muani. Timber steps up and prevents a shot from being taken.

France wins a corner down the left. They play it short and Tchouameni sends in a long cross, which almost creates a shot out of nothing for the home side. Konate gets another chance to head a cross in, but Cillissen is the re block.

Muani finds Kounde on the run down the right. The wing-back then cuts it back for Mbappe, whose shot from inside the box, flies wide off the post.

This has been football at its efficient best by France. Whenever it has attacked, it has looked like a goal will be scored. Now Netherlands offers France time to build its way up.

MBAPPE SOCRES!! Mbappe starts the move and he is there to finish it off. He makes a pass to Tchouameni who threads one forward. Kolo Muani dummies over the ball and Mbappe is there to finish it.

Smooth flowing football from Netherlands as they pass the ball around the French box. Unfortunately, Depay’s shot was straight at Maignan, who makes a comfortable save.

France happy to sit back and let the Dutch have the better share of the possession. And when it gets the ball they move the ball upfield quickly looking to utilise the pace of Mbappe and Kolo Muani.

Netherlands beginning to insert itself into the game. Berghuis timed his run perfectly, but his touch was a poor one as Hernandez swoops in to make the block.

Kolo Muani wins a freekick down the right after a clever run. Griezmann steps up to take the freekick and he puts it in a dangerous area and defender Upamecano is there to tap it in. FRANCE FLYING!

France leads with the first shot of the game. But that doesn’t change the Dutch plan as they continue to play their way out from the back.

Netherlands tries to play out from the back. Griezmann wins the ball. Muani gets the ball to Mbappe who squares it to Griezmann, who thumps it in with his left foot. FRANCE TAKES AN EARLY LEAD!!

A new era for France kicks off under the captaincy of Kylian Mbappe. Netherlands with the kick off.

France: Maignna; Kounde, Konate, Upamecano, Hernandez; Tchouameni, Rabiot; Coman, Griezmann, Mbappe, Kolo Muani
Netherlands: Cillissen; Geertruida, Timber, Van Dijk, Ake; De Roon, Wijnaldum, Taylor; Berghuis, Memphis, Simons

New captain, new goalkeeper, new defense, new governance — and major players retired.

It seems like a new dawn for World Cup runner-up France as it begins European Championship qualifying without Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema, and with Kylian Mbappé leading the team out at Stade de France against Netherlands on Friday. Les Bleus then play Ireland in another Group B match at Dublin on Monday.

“The end of several players’ international careers means that the squad is younger,” said coach Didier Deschamps, who picked brothers Khéphren and Marcus Thuram in his first squad since last year’s FIFA World Cup. “Obviously we have less experience.”
