Indian women football team’s dismal run at the AFC Women’s Asian Cup continues. On Friday, the side suffered a humiliating 1-7 defeat against Uzbekistan at the Kim II Sung Stadium in Pyongyang.

In its previous match, the side suffered a 0-10 defeat against South Korea. And on Friday, history was back to haunt the footballers, as Uzbekistan stunned the Indian defence in the opening minutes of the match. Indians also failed to match up to striker Karachik Lyudmila’s speed.

In the 3rd minute, Karachik edged past Manisha Panna to find the net. And, three minutes later, she dodged Ashalata Devi in a similar fashion to give the Uzbek side 2-0 lead.

Captain Sarikova Makhliyo outfoxed the Indian midfield before finding the back of the Indian net in the 10th minute. That, however, was not enough. In the 19th minute, Zoirova Umida extended the lead.

India reduced the deficit in the 22nd minute. Bala Devi’s shot from more than 30 yards out caught the Uzbek custodian offguard and crashed in the back of the opponent’s net to make it 4-1.

However, the opponent added its goal tally in the 44th minute, with Makhliyo’s shot finding its way into the net. At the half-time, score-line read 5-1 in Uzbekistan’s favour.

In the 63rd minute, substitute Narbekova Lianna got on the score-sheet. In the 85th minute, Dangmei Grace came close to scoring for India, but her effort was saved by the goalie.

Turdiboeva Feruza scored the last goal for Uzbekistan.

The Indian team plays Hong Kong in their last match of the tournament on April 11.
