The Portuguese midfielder moved to Real Madrid from Barcelona in 2000 for a world-record fee of 62 million Euros. His transfer drew the ire of Barcelona fans, who attacked Figo when he returned to the Camp Nou as a Real Madrid player. Figo made 488 appearances for Barcelona and Real combined, 239 for the Catalan giant and 249 for the club from the Spanish capital.

Ernesto Valverde's predecessor at the Camp Nou, Enrique played over 200 times for Real Madrid before making the switch to its fierce rival in 1996. He went on to have a trophy-laden eight-year spell (1996 to 2004) at Camp Nou before hanging up his boots as a player. Michael Laudrup and Gheorghe Hagi are also among those who have played for the two giants.
