India centre-back Sandesh Jhingan has been ruled out of India's World Cup qualifier match against Bangladesh on October 15 due to an injury.
The central defender underwent a knee injury in the friendly game against NorthEast United on Wednesday in Guwahati, as he was taken off the field around the 10th minute mark.
Sandesh underwent an MRI scan on Thursday morning, wherein reports indicated that he won’t be fit in time to play against Bangladesh.
India played out a 1-1 draw against The Highlanders in Guwahati, with the match being held to prepare the Blue Tigers for the Bangladesh tie.
Captain Sunil Chhetri drew the first blood in the 34th minute, but NorthEast United equalised ten minutes later through newly signed Ghanaian Asamoah Gyan.
Sandesh Jhingan becomes the second defender to be ruled out for the Bangladesh tie after Rahul Bheke was earlier announced to be ruled out due to a similar reason.
India faces Bangladesh in its third match of the World Cup qualifiers on October 15 at the Salt Lake Stadium. Igor Stimac's team lost its first qualifier game 1-2 against Oman, but followed it with a goalless draw against Qatar, the reigning Asian champion, away from home.
