The BWF World Championships 2022 - the most prestigious event on the World Tour which offers maximum ranking points - starts on August 22 in Tokyo.
With injured P.V. Sindhu missing out for the first time in a decade, the onus will be on young Lakshya Sen, experienced Saina Nehwal, Kidambi Srikanth and H.S. Prannoy to spearhead India's challenge in the Championships.
In the last edition, Srikanth and Lakshya scripted history when the two Indian shuttlers made it to the Worlds podium for the first time. Srikanth won silver while Lakshya got bronze. So, this time expectations from the Indian male shuttlers will be high.
In doubles, all eyes will be on Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, who claimed India's first gold medal in men's doubles at the CWG earlier this month.
Away from all the limelight will be a certain Saina Nehwal, who was once the cynosure of all eyes.
Among others, the pairing of Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy, and Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly, will also be in the fray in women's doubles. The pairs are CWG bronze medallists in 2018 and 2022.
