Scores read - Patna 34-34 Pune

We have the first tie of the season after Puneri Paltan runs down the clock, not wanting to risk giving Patna the win.

Lamba raid kar. Gadbad nahin chahiye - Raid long and don’t mess up, says BC Ramesh to his Puneri Paltan boys. 14 seconds remain

34-34 Patna returns the favour. No super tackle but Mohit Goyat is sent out. Thyagarajan the man.

33-34 Pune is playing on the do-or-die raid and what a ploy! Badal Singh crouches behind Sachin and they push him out for a SUPER TACKLE.

33-32 IS THIS THE MOMENT THE GAME CHANGES? Aslam Inamdar is sent to the bench after being brought down in the centre of the Patna half

32-32 Sachin comes. Sachin gets a point. Sachin goes. Amazing work from the Pirates raider on a do-or-die raid.

Meanwhile, the second match of the day will see Hi-Flier Pawan Sehrawat in action. Follow Gujarat Giants vs Tamil Thalaivas here

31-32 ASLAM turns things around. He gets a bonus and sends out defender Sajin C to regain the lead for Pune and bring back Mohit Goyat. Finally.

MOHIT GOYAT HAS BEEN OFF THE COURT FOR OVER 14 MINUTES.

31-30 Akash Shinde is surrounded and pulled back as he and Mohit now find themselves watching proceedings from the bench

30-30 Vishwas takes out Balasaheb Jadhav

29-30 Another bonus for Puneri Paltan

29-29 Bonus to Pune and scores are level. Aslam Inamdar the raider.

29-28 WONDERFUL DEFENDING FROM PUNE. Alankar Patil foxes Rohit Gulia from the back and pushes him down before help arrives

29-27 Aslam Inamdar slows down his pace and comes away with a bonus point

29-26 We are at a time out after Akash Shinde gets Rohit Gulia and then Vishwas takes out Mohit Goyat. Pune is struggling to keep up with the pace of this game and this timeout will help them breathe and think clearly.

28-25 TWO POINT RAID for Patna. Rohit Gulia takes out Sanket Sawant and Balasaheb Jadhav

26-25 Aslam Inamdar picks up a bonus point

26-24 TURNAROUND! Badal Singh comes in to raid but Neeraj Kumar takes him out. ALL OUT INFLICTED ON PUNE. Pune has scored just 1 point in the last five minutes

23-24 Sachin has now taken out Pankaj Mohite and one man remains

22-24 Pankaj Mohite gets a bonus point

SUBSTITUTION - PUNE - Mohite in, Jadhav out

22-23 Aslam Inamdar’s penchant for advanced tackles come to haunt him as he gifts a point to Rohit Gulia

21-23 Akash Shinde is unsuccessful in his raid as he is pushed out of bounds by Neeraj Kumar

20-23 Sachin takes out Sanket Sawant on a do-or-die raid

19-23 Mohit Goyat comes in for a do-or-die raid and Patna cloggs the exits. Castled and how.

18-23 Sachin comes in, first tries to outwit Badal but he moves to the right corner and picks up a bonus plus a touch point after the right corner can’t finish the anklehold. Looks like a lone wolf effort from Sachin here.

HALF TIME - 23-16 in favour of Puneri Paltan
Pune does not seem to be missing Fazel-Nabibakhsh. They’ve done well in attack and defence and been very aggressive all through. That said, the left corner, with Badal Singh manning it, is looking brittle.
Patna Pirates kept up, in fact, they inflicted the first all-out, but seem to have lost some heat in their attack. Can they bounce back in the second half?

16-23 Puneri Paltan’s Akash Shinde takes out Vishwas and this now means Patna Pirates will begin the second half with a do-or-die raid. And that’s half time!

16-22 Mohit Goyat first gets Yuvaraj out with a touch and then tackles Rohit Gulia to get Pune a couple of consecutive points

16-20 Okay, a few points have passed but the pace of this game is electric. After looking hapless for a few minutes and allowing Patna to inflict an all-out, Pune comes back with lightning pace and returns the favour by inflicting an all out on Patna

13-16 Rohit Gulia takes out Alankar Patil with ease

SUBSTITUTION: PATNA - Rohit Gulia in, Naveen Sharma in

13-15 Balasaheb Jadhav takes care of Vishwas. Yet another point to Pune

13-14 MOHIT GOYAT! What a lovely raid. He goes deep into the Patna half and picks up Sunil and Neeraj Kumar before darting back to the midline

13-12 Sachin rams into the Pune defense sideways but Balasaheb Jadhav gets a body hold on Sachin and in what seems like a solo tackle, pulls him down before reinforcements arrive.

13-11 Sachin comes in for a do-or-die raid and Badal Singh is a little over eager as he gets a slippery hold on Sachin’s ankle. But Sachin drags him to the midline

12-11 Mohit Goyat comes in and gets Sajin. Quick and easy

12-10 Aslam Inamdar comes in to raid and he sends Sunil to the bench. Vishwas follows that with an empty raid.

12-9 Pankaj Mohite attempts a dubki and his hand gets a few inches near the midline but the Patna defense drags him back. ALL OUT INFLICTED.

PUNE: SUBSTITUTION: Pankaj Mohite comes in for Sanket Sawant

9-8 Sachin runs in for a do-or-die raid. Pune had just three defenders on the mat. In the replay, we see Sachin had a touch on one member of the right corner and we then see he gets a touch on the second right chain, Balasaheb Jadhav too. Sachin then runs and demands the two points. This has gone for a review because referees believe Sachin just got one. But now, replays suggest this might turn out to be a five-point raid as we can sense touches on all three Pune players. TV Umpire verdict: REVIEW SUCCESSFUL. Two points will be given. The five-point bonus won’t happen and that leaves one man standing for Pune and that’s Pankaj Mohite.

7-8 Akash Shinde believes he deserves a bonus plus a point but the referee feels the raider went out of bounds. Akash refers. Replay shows he’s got the bonus but at the point of crossing to the midline. Sajin seems to dash him out and we’re trying to see if his body is in the playing area. So does that touch point stand? REVIEW UNSUCCESSFUL. Pune loses their reviews for the night and Patna retains that point. Was this review necessary

6-7 Aslam Inamdar loses balance due to his momentum and goes into the lobby without a touch. Point to Patna

5-7 Badal Singh comes in from the left to help Sanket Sawant dash Rohit Gulia as the right cover holds him back to ensure he’s well away from the midline. Both units have been aggressive in attack and defense today. The confidence is particularly encouraging from Puneri Paltan

5-5 Stunning defending from Patna Pirates here as they get a body hold on Mohit and roll him and pull him back

4-5 Alankar Patil steps out of bounds, gifting a point to Patna

3-5 Aslam is slammed down with a strong ankle hold-dash combo. He heads to the bench

No Fazel so Patna will target that left corner.

2-5 Puneri Paltan’s Badal Singh comes handy for Pune in the left corner as they bring down Vishwas. Good support from the rest of the team

2-4 Akash Shinde comes in for the third raid and quickly removes Rohit Gulia with a kick to the left cover

2-3 Error from PUNE! Just as the cushion started forming, the defense errs. Mohit Goyat tries to hold on to the raider - Vishwas- but can’t hold on.

0-3 Mohit Goyat has picked up two nifty points on his first raid.

0-1 Aslam Inamdar starts proceedings for Pune. Gets a bonus under the right corner. Sachin follows for Patna with an empty raid

HEAD-TO-HEAD | Matches: 17 | Patna: 13 | Puneri: 2 | Tie: 2

PREVIEW:

Patna will be banking on their lead raider Sachin to spearhead their attack and continue his strong form last season which saw him amass 172 raid points, making him the pick of the raiders for Patna Pirates. He will be supported by the experienced Sukesh Hegde, who has scored 471 raid points overall in Pro Kabaddi.

Patna Pirates will also hope that the likes of Monu, Anand Tomar, and Vishwas S can make their presence felt while raiding. In defense, Patna Pirates’ skipper, Neeraj Kumar will be in charge of marshaling his troops. Neeraj Kumar scored 53 tackle points last season and was a major reason behind them boasting a tight defense. He along with Sunil, who notched up 49 tackle points last season, will shoulder the bulk of the defensive responsibility for the team. Furthermore, all-rounders like Rohit Gulia and Sajin C will add balance to the team since they can contribute in both attack and defence.

Check out our interview with Aslam Inamdar from last season

Puneri Paltan, though, will be ready for the three-time champions as they bid to make a positive start to the campaign. Aslam Inamdar, who enjoyed a fine Pro Kabaddi debut campaign with Puneri Paltan last season, will be their go-to raider. He scored 169 raid points to become the top raider for Puneri Paltan in Season 8 and demonstrated that he can also contribute defensively with 20 tackle points. Inamdar will have the likes of Mohit Goyat and Pankaj Mohite to support him in the attack. Mohit Goyat, in particular, could have a big role to play if his 159 raid points and 28 tackle points in Season 8 are anything to go by. Defensively, Puneri Paltan has the likes of Sombir, Abinesh Nadarajan, and Sanket Sawant within their ranks. While Sombir scored 60 tackle points in Season 8, Abinesh Nadarajan and Sanket Sawant notched up 44 and 26 tackle points respectively
