The fifth-leg of the F1H2O World championship power boat racing will be held on the Krishna River in Amaravati, capital of Andhra Pradesh, from November 16 to 18, according to Mr. Marco Pietrini, Director of Logistics, F1H2O.

Mr. Pietrini informed media here on Thursday that the Indian Grand Prix will feature 350 drivers from teams across the world including one named Brand Amaravati which has already taken part in the last two races.

“This year seven Grand Prix races are scheduled with four of them over already, the fifth one in Vijayawada will be held on the Krishna River. The 23-km course has been certified after intensive tests over the last four months on the river to ensure that the international standards are complied with,” he said.

“There will be a free practice session on November 16 and on November 17 teams will be battling for pole position while on the next day afternoon, Grand Prix India will start another free practice session before a spectacular parade tour,” he explained.

IOC recognised

“This is an IOC recognised event and also conducted in compliance with the WADA regulations with equal emphasis on safety measures,” Mr. Pietrini said. “In the last 15 years we have not witnessed any major accident involving any driver even in some serious capsizes of the Catamaran boats,” he added.

Mr. M.K. Meena, Secretary of AP Tourism, said that whole idea of hosting the event was to not only promote adventure sport in a big way but also sell the brand of Amaravati to the entire world.

“As part of our efforts, there will be festivals of Andhra food, handicrafts and also an investment summit too to lure prospective investors,” he said.

Mr. Sandeep Mandava, CEO, India Extreme of Malaxmi Group, hoped the water sports would get a major fillip in Amaravati after this event.
