Amee wins women’s billiards title

Madhya Pradesh’s Amee Kamani beat Karnataka’s Varshaa Sanjeev to win the women’s billiards competition of the 84th National Billiards & Snooker Championship at the PYC Gymkhana on Monday.

Madhya Pradesh’s Amee Kamani beat Karnataka’s Varshaa Sanjeev to win the women’s billiards competition of the 84th National Billiards & Snooker Championship at the PYC Gymkhana on Monday. In the final that went to the decider, Amee won 75-46,75-45, 28-76,21-75, 76-48)-58. In the semfinals, Amee got the better of Karnataka’s Uma Devi 76-44, 75-10 and Varshaa beat Maharashtra’s Meenal Thakur 76-73,68-76, 77-58. The losing quarterfinalists were Andhra Pradesh’s P.S.S.Angel, Tamil Nadu’s Neena Praveen, Karnataka’s M. Chitra and Maharashtra’s Arantxa Sanchis.

Delhi’s Keerath Bhandaal beat Telangana’s I. Lahari to win the juniors girls' snooker final 28-50,52-36, 48-45. In the semifinals, Keerath accounted for Tamil Nadu’s Anupama Ramachandran and Lahari beat Varshaa. The losing quarterfinalists were Karnataka’s P. Keerthana, Madhya Pradesh’s Ishika Shah, TN’s Mariam Agnish and Janani.

After a long-stay in the city during which he took part in six events, TN junior S. Shrikrishna, after leading 3-2 in the first elimination match set to seven frames, lost 3-4 to Maharashtra’s Hasan Badami. He had scored a good win against Rafath Habib in the league match on Sunday to qualify for the knockout.

Some of the proficient snooker players like Pankaj Advani, Dhvaj Haria and Manan Chandra entered the pre-quarterfinals; Advani and Haria scored fluent wins, but Chandra was made to wait by Punjab’s Dhruv Verma.
