Narang inaugurates shooting tournament

Olympic and World Championship medallist Gagan Narang commended Billabong High International School for hosting the third All India Digvijay Singh memorial air gun championship, at the opening ceremony here on Saturday evening.

Olympic and World Championship medallist Gagan Narang commended Billabong High International School for hosting the third All India Digvijay Singh memorial air gun championship, at the opening ceremony here on Saturday evening.

“It is really exciting to see schools slowly but surely embracing the sport. It is from schools that Olympic champions of tomorrow will emerge,” said Gagan.

Even though the four-day championship will be shot on paper targets, and without decimal scoring in the rifle events, about 480 shooters are expected to compete, including Olympian Prakash Nanjappa.

The champions in the rifle and pistol events will be presented Rs.50,000 while the second and third placed will get ₹30,000 and ₹20,000 respectively.

There will also be attractive cash prizes for the participants of the Champion of Champions events.
