Rajput continues to shine at the National selection trials

Sanjeev Rajput continued to assert his strong grip over the 50-metre free rifle as he topped the second trials in men’s rifle 3-position event in the shooting National selection trials at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad on Sunday.

Sanjeev Rajput continued to assert his strong grip over the 50-metre free rifle as he topped the second trials in men’s rifle 3-position event in the shooting National selection trials at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad on Sunday.

In the 45-shot final, Sanjeev had a total of 460.9 as he beat Akhil Sheoran by one point. The effort also saw Sanjeev finishing on top in the overall averages, ahead of the young Swapnil Kusale and Akhil Sheoran.

In centre fire pistol, Adarsh Singh surprised the strong field by topping with 585, ahead of Pemba Tamang, Vijay Kumar and Rajat Kumar Yadav who all shot 584. Samaresh Jung was fifth with 583.

In the shotgun trials, Smit Singh and Sheeraz Sheikh stayed in the top-2 positions in skeet in both the trials, while Olympian Mairaj Ahmad Khan was below par with rounds of 117 and 115.

In men’s trap, Prithviraj Tondaiman (119) and Kynan Chenai  (123) took turns to top the table. Former world champion Manavjit Sandhu stayed consistent with two rounds of 119.

In women’s trap, Shreyasi Singh topped both the trials with 112 and 114, ahead of Seema Tomar. Olympian Shagun Chowdhary shot 105 in both the trials to be placed third and fifth.

In women’s skeet, Saniya Sheikh (114) and Rashmmi Rathore (113) placed at the top in the first trial, but were pushed to the fourth and fifth spots in the second trial, in which Ganemat Sekhon  and Maheshwari placed at the top. Former national champion Arti Singh Rao was not at her best and had scores of 109 and 106.

Junior men: 25m sports pistol: 1. Vijayveer Sidhu 587; 2. Rajkanwar SinghSandhu 585; 3. Anish Bhanwala 585.

Trap-2: 1. Kynan Chenai 123; 2. Manavjit Sandhu 119; 3. Zoravar Sandhu 118.
