Sumit Nagal  put up a fight but it wasn't enough as he slipped to a 6-2, 7-6(2) loss to former world No. 7 Richard Gasquet in the first round of the Hamburg Open on Tuesday.

The Indian managed to convert only two of four breakpoints he earned and it went on to hurt him as the Frenchman capitalised on four of ten breakpoints to make it a straight forward affair, in about an hour and 30 minutes.

Sumit collected 20 ATP points for qualification, as the first round loser doesn't win any points, and collected a prize money of €13,065.

At the Baltic Open in Latvia, 264th ranked Patricia Maria Tig of Romania proved too good for Ankita Raina, as she raced to a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Ankita, who was the last player to be directly accepted into the draw with her rank of 173, collected one WTA point and €1,694.

The results:

ATP-500 German Open, Hamburg
Singles (first round): Richard Gasquet (Fra) bt Sumit Nagal 6-2, 7-6(2).

WTA Baltic Open, Latvia
Singles (first round): Patricia Maria Tig (Rou) bt Ankita Raina 6-2, 6-1.
