Qualifier Ramkumar Ramanathan was beaten 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 by Jason Jung of Chinese Taipei in the first round of the $777,385 New York Open ATP tennis tournament.
The 24-year-old Ramkumar, ranked 128 in the world, had beaten the 29-year-old Jung in three sets in their last meeting in the Nottingham Challenger on grass last year.
Ramkumar could not add to the 12 ATP points for qualifying into the main event.
In the Challenger in Bangkok, Sriram Balaji and Arjun Kadhe outplayed the Ratiwatana twins, Sanchai and Sonchat, for the loss of four games in the doubles pre-quarterfinals.
There was more success for the Indian players, in the Challenger in France, as top seeds Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Purav Raja cruised into the doubles quarterfinals.
